/k/ I have a stupid question.
Why are black uniforms so popular with the military and police? What environment is it supposed to blend into? Or is it more of a status symbol thing?
>>33203783
It's psychologically imposing and designed to stand out, not blend in.
>>33203783
It helps with concealing amongst urban youth
>>33203783
If they wore green or camo, people would assume they were army. And most people in our part of the world don't want armed soldiers in the streets.
>>33203783
>Why are black uniforms so popular with the military and police?
Because its cool to be evil.
>>33203783
It's a uniform, not camoflage.
>>33203783
hugo boss
>>33203783
You said it yourself, uniform, not camo. Plus there is a mental side to it as well, intimidation of targets etc etc.
>>33203783
so they don;t stand out AT NITE
>>33203783
It looks cool
>>33204003

So why did the German Army use field gray during both world wars? It's pretty close to black, and if it wasn't to blend in, was it to intimidate and look cool?

>So why did the German Army use field gray during both world wars? It's pretty close to black, and if it wasn't to blend in, was it to intimidate and look cool?
quick googling suggests tradition, prussian army and related searches give images of black/grey uniforms being in use during the imperial era and earlier
>>33208277
>green/grey
>not supposed to blend in
might not be the best for some purposes but I'd imagine it made a decent urban/forest camo
>>33203809
Underrated as fuck
>>33208318
Black is a pretty stupid color for a soldier who will be doing most of their movement at daytime. It's easy to see in practically every environment, compared to most other colors. There is a reason range targets are black. The exception is if you are in a tank crew, especially back when tanks were sloshing with oil. Black oil.
>>33209663
Okay, compared not to 'most' colors, but compared to grey, green, khaki, brown and camo.
It's a generic uniform, they aren't meant to blend in. I think that non-SWAT police camo is counterproductive. Beat cops should be identifiable. SWAT on the other hand is specifically doing raids, hostage rescue, etc, not patrol, so it makes sense for them to wear camo.
>>33209694
What, now you're going full killjoy and denying that gold, copper, cyan, beige, orange and blood red are better uniform colors than black?
>>33203783
Any country where the police wears black uniform is one step away from being a police state. Black uniform is to instill fear and intimidate. People should respect, not fear the police.
I think grey is the best color choice tbqh.
>>33213662
So what then? People bitch about camo, people bitch about black. Many departments wear Navy Blue but its so close to black people wouldn't even recognize anyway.
If you think color, especially BLACK for christs sake, indicates a police state you're mad. How the hell does black instill fear; they're uniforms not niggers.
>>33213682
it's a good look
>>33213662
>Black uniform is to instill fear and intimidate.
This. Black is spooky. Except when it's dress uniforms. Then it's just fashion.
Police should wear high-visibility outfits. Most cops that get killed on duty aren't shot or stabbed, they're blasted by cars while pulling people over.
>>33213662
how do you feel about pic related
your cops will never be this /fa/
can you imagine living somewhere where the penalties for committing crimes all involve getting fucking styled on
>>33213682

The darkness.
>>33213827
It's reinforcement you dingus
Because we let all the edgybois have badges and now they wanna play street judge, Striking fear in everyone that jaywalks or has to ask a cop for directions.
Cops are supposed to be BLUE, A nice, Non threatening color that still stands out. BLACK just makes you look like a reaper main that just got the job to get revenge on billy for calling you gay.
>>33213682
>>33213827
what the hell am I looking at
americans just love getting BLACKED
>>33213788
gray seems to belnd in nicely in urban settings
>>33213788
Jesus christ
Why the fuck does a cop need a armoury worth of weapons on him
>>33215192
Can we say a lot of their operations are short so you'd rather go fully armored than lightweighted, besides, that's just a 9mm smg isn't it?
>>33203809
serbs really love black uniforms.
weird their police/feds whatever wear black in the forests and the elite military unit they were training had soviet era hand me downs. guess each black unit are factions in serbia working for a warlord
>>33203783
Authoritian color. The color of death.
Surprisingly green and much of military camo is the color of vitality, earth, and health.
Blue is a calming color. And probably should be worn by peace officers but they prefer wearing darker colors. Some officers do wear white, tan, and baby blue uniforms. White because everything shows up real well in court when you hold up the uniform and they can see all the dirt and/or gun shots, scratches, etc.
>>33215170
I'd white her out if you know what I mean
>>33215219
found this pic in a img searcher, is this them?
>>33215202
1 9mm isnt much but spraying em at anything will leave enough that he will die of lead poisoning
Still pretty cool to look at tho
>>33208277
Grey-green works pretty well in cold forests.
>>33208277
Grey-green blends in nicely in European forests and both are traditional military colors. Grey/Black from the Liberation wars and Green from the Jäger troops which are the roots of modern infantry.
>>33213750
>>33213765
>>33213827
why do they do that?
>>33215192
>armory worth of weapons
I count an SMG, a sidearm, and a Taser. That's not unreasonable
>>33203783
It's so that they don't hurt any feelings by being shot because they look like the bad guys.
>>33203783
It gives the impression that they're wearing the skin of their natural prey, striking fear in the latter's heart.
>>33203783
Its usually not black but dark blue and its way easier to look clean. If you take two guys one wearing khaki and one wearing black/dark blue and have them lay prone on the concrete Lean against a building, and wrestle in the grass. The guy in khaki will look like a multicored shit show. The black dark blue guy. Dusts himself off and still looks halfway presentable.
>>33215513
Montreal police. They are on strike.
>>33203809
>>33203909
>>33213682
Green is also good

The guy with the shield is going full: pew, pew, pew, mothafucka!
>>33215341
Wtf am I reading
Why do European cops cover their face? I always notice it when tactical happenings are happening over there, but not as much in the US and Canada
>>33216090
well for one thing people don't worship cops over there.
so if they're involved in something unsavory and their face makes the papers they could get some flak
In the US a cop can straight up murder someone, and the public and even the jury at his murder trial will be like "he dindu nuffin. he was a good man riskin his lief for our freedums. been on the force 10 years."
Christ you people grow up hearing about the LA riots and you learn ABSOLUTELY NOTHING from it.
>>33215839
funny slacks for better checks?
>>33215192
terrorist situations witch are on the rise
>>33216090
For the privacy of the officers. When you are with a special police unit you don't want your face in the papers. In Germany it started after the RAF terrorism when the police was afraid of revenge acts against police officers.
>>33215145
>350 foot effective range
I want to believe they meant meters
>>33213788
I dont know why but I really dig that taser placement
>>33216162
>t. some faggot that doesn't understand the dregs of being a patrolman and thinks police officers only deal with average, rational citizens.
We get it, you hate cops. The reality of the situation is that people talking like you are often the same kind of person that, when push comes to shove, hides behind a locked door and waits for the police to come save them.
>In the US a cop can straight up murder someone, and the public and even the jury at his murder trial will be like "he dindu nuffin. he was a good man riskin his lief for our freedums. been on the force 10 years."
If you honestly think like this move to somewhere like Detroit or Gary where the police dont come around anymore and tell me how you enjoy it. Street officers do risk their life daily and recently quite a few of them have paid the price.
>>33216090
While >33216162 does have point that the public does view police from a more liberal standpoint, a lot of the times the press has the right to publish the officers information in a public manor.
No matter where you live, crazy people are crazy people. You dont want them knowing your officers names, addresses, birthdays, family details in case of retaliation.
