since you're starting out look for anything in 22lr or 25acp, yeah it's small but just trust me when I say that you're better off building up from that then trying to build down. Both are plenty lethal against unarmored targets (ie 99% of criminals)

personally I'd suggest a 22 ruger sp101 or mark iv

Beretta just came out with a new compact carry for their Px4 line that is pretty good, but it's a bit pricy for what it is. You could look into their normal compact, but I'd advise against their subcompact. Beretta also has the Nano, which is okay, but the Pico kinda sucks unless you REALLY need a tiny gun above all else.

You could always just get some tiny glawk brand glawk if you want to show the world you have absolutely no taste.

About $550ish online. You can find LCP cheaper if you wanna go the semi-auto route but stick with Ruger, which is a pretty good company.
