tell someone where you're going, how long you expect to be gone, and plan for regular check-ins to verify that you're not dead or lost. giving someone your route and itinerary will save your life if shit goes sideways, since now the emergency services will have somewhere to start, instead of just "iunno he went into the fuckin woods"
