They finally got an S2? Neat. Already read the mango but I'll check this out. Also, fuck all of you turboniggers, I enjoyed Upotte!! a lot, if only for stupid moeblob reasons and G3 being super fappable. Need to get to reading instead of watching. I liked the whole 3 episodes of GSC and need to find mango. Black Lagoon is a staple and Trigun was fun, even if Vash's gun was fucking goofier than he was. They get bonus points for details like chambering it in a real cartridge (and having the engravings/markings) and Meryl carrying 9001 derringers. GuP is a must if you're a treadhead. You won't learn much but you'll enjoy the effort the Nips put into trivia and at least TRYING for realism.

Yep. I don't remember exactly when I went, between 1995 and 1996 I think. I do remember I got to fly a single engine 4 seater, a Piper Cub I think. It was an add-on package. If I had been one or two years older, I would've been in the next higher age group and gotten to fly a T-38. Still a blast though.

Looking back, it was like a /k/ theme park. There was a mini lake with a zip line to practice parachuting into water, a helo dunk to simulate crash landing in water in a helicopter, and flight sims complete with top gun style classroom briefings/training before each session.

The last night, we had to pretend we had crash landed in enemy territory, and make it from our 'crash site' to a bonfire on the other side of the facility, without being seen. We were given some stuff to do camo facepaint with and spent a couple hours crawling through the woods an in streams 'avoiding' enemy patrols. This was the 90s, so the enemy patrols were armed with painball guns.

Funimation usually does okay dubs that don't change much. Remember Nelvana dubs? Those were so awful. Looking at you, Cardcaptor. Kadokawa stuff is usually dubbed fairly well- Heaven's Lost Property, Future Diary, stuff like thay. Watamote's dub was good. LoveLive's was awful though. 4Kids are, as far as I know, the only ones who completely gut and neuter a show the way they do, though. They're televising to a pussified American audience whose parents often freak out at the MENTION of a gun and who wouldn't know what an orchestral score was if the definition bit them on their asses. They want their goddamn money, and if they want to sell that ad space and merch, they pretty much HAVE to neuter and westernize the shows they dub. Honestly? But with anime's rise in popularity and increased profits (even normies at least love Dragon Ball) dubs have gotten much better because studios are willing to invest in them. Sub-lovers are just stuck in their ways is all, that's why they continue watching even new production in the original Japanese. Kind of like old vets who think 5.56mm is a passing fad. These days, dubs are usually just as good as the original Japanese, although certain jokes and idioms may be lost in translation. I actually prefer dubs. A subbed anime requires my absolute focus because I read and watch simultaneously. I can do that. But I live in a household full of extremely noisy people who INSIST on constantly bothering me for anything and everything, so I need to be either home alone or watching at 0300 if I want to watch a subbed anime. Dubs don't require my complete, undivided attention. I can turn my head to tell someone to fuck off without missing anything or having to refocus myself. That said, if I can't find a dub? Subs it is.

It's basically western animation, but Full Metal Alchemist is great. Two different tv series, I believe Brotherhood is better, much much longer, and the military characters are much more fleshed out.

The original show followed the manga exactly but eventually passed the manga and they went off the rails and ended early. But has the best build up and character development. Brotherhood quickly goes through what the original covered but follows the manga once it passes the original show.

The final (military) battle is pretty cool as it is two relatively competent forces fighting but with one clearly superior. The hero characters are also borderline monsters (looking at you Mustang, you want to burn the unholy abominations to a crisp).

The animation is solid and the characters are pretty well written. It's one of my examples that when Japanese create media that is about cultures that are not their own they can make them really good.
