Are there any 7.62x39 AKs that don't suck? Poorfag WASRs and Centuryshit doesn't count. Budget is $1,200

I'm not sure if they're in stock, but I got one of the polish ak47s from Atlantic firearms. It's been a fantastic rifle.

Buuuuuut, if I could do it again I would have gone with an AK pistol.

VEPR is too heavy at 8 pounds unloaded to be anything but a range toy
>>
>>33175487
go be a pussy somewhere else.

If you think a "8 lb gun" unloaded is heavy i think you need to lift. My m16 in Afghanistan fully kit out A4 weight was like 9.5 pounds unloaded.
>>
>>33175316
Portability, fun to shoot, novelty (cucked state), lighter weight, also better for use in close situations. But that's my opinion.

Either a converted Saiga if you can find one, or an N-PAP.

I don't know why /k/ rejects the N-PAP so vehemently. It's made by a military arsenal that knows what they're doing, and they make them well, and the import-parts fuckery is minimal. Literally the only flaw is that it's Yugo M70 pattern instead of AKM pattern, with Yugo stock and grips, dust cover button, and the weird Yugo SVD/AK compatible side rail.

It's as good as an Izmash-built Saiga if you don't care about the Yugo quirks.

I used to be an AK guy then I got an AR. Took both to the range the other day. Would choose the AR.

>>
>>33178987
Having a finish that chips, bubbles, and sheds makes a gun bad. Being forced to use CLP to clean your gun because everything else will take the paint/finish right off makes a gun bad.

This isn't some minor flaw where it's solely personal aesthetic preferences

>>
>>33179983
They take both SVD and AK side optics.
AK optics mount a little bit high and further back than they would on a Russian-style rail, though.

I use a PK-01VS, a russian red-dot made to co-witness on Russian AKs - It mounts at a nice height on the Yugo, though it's -just- high enough that I can't cowitness anymore.
Others use Midwest Industries rails which are made for the Yugos to mount whatever Picatinny optics they want, and I've seen some use SVD mount 4x PSOP scopes without a problem.

You'd probably want to do a bit of reading on what combloc optics mount well on the Yugo rail before running out and buying one, but it's not a big deal if you use a bit of goggle.

If you want to see what the PK01-VS looks like on my NPAP, I'll drag it out of the safe to take a picture.
>>
>>33175300
i think he wants something nicer though just because he can. I love my wasr and it functions just as well as my friends arsenal but it just isnt as pretty. WASR is a great functional beater rifle arsenal has better a e s t h e t i c s really depends on what you want. I though it better to get a rifle that is functionally the same with slightly worse fit and finish and still have 400-500$ left for ammo mags and part of an optic than one that simply looked better.
>>
>>33180625
I'd like to see it.
The M21 side rail is not meant for standard AK mounts, so I'm curious as to how it sits.

WASRs are mediocre at best. They're still coming from the factory with shit like canted sights, gas tubes out of alignment, shitty rivets. If you know what you're looking for and you inspect one closely in person, it's a good value - but I wouldn't buy one sight unseen.
They have issues. The issues aren't nearly as bad as American-made AKs going out of headspace and shooting themselves apart, but they're still very much second-rate rifles.

The simple fact of the matter is that with Izmash Saigas and Molot VEPRs out of the picture now, the US does not have any really top-tier AKs anymore. You can get good parts kit builds from reputable builders, you can get Arsenals and hope the paint doesn't bubble off, you can get NPAPs and cope with having a special snowflake pattern rifle.

I think the Zastava NPAPs and OPAPs are probably the best new AKs you can buy in the US right now in terms of quality, but the non-standard aspects of them is a big turnoff. If Zastava was making AKMs instead of M70s, I think they'd be regarded just as highly as Izmash and Molot rifles, I think.

Here you go.

On a Russian pattern rail, the PK01-VS would normally be just about kissing the dust cover.

>>33180776
I'm not saying they're always bad - but the QC just isn't there, even today.. When they're put together right, they're good rifles. The problem is the number of lemons that slip through.

If Kalashnikov Concern buys Molot, say goodbye to VEPRs.
Even if Molot stays afloat on their own, the US market is one they'd probably exit - they just don't sell in huge volume here, and it's a lot of regulation they probably don't want to deal with for the relatively low income.

I do hope Pres Trump lifts the import bans, though.
>>
>>33175060
Defense Distributed is pretty good. I got a nice milled AK for ~$950. But they end up being sold out a lot too.

>>
>>33180828
Thanks for the pic.
That's some poor relief, but if it works for you.

>I'm not saying they're always bad - but the QC just isn't there, even today
According to whom?
I don't many complaints, if any about canted WASRs nowadays.
Maybe it's because people learned that you can reject a transfer if the rifle isn't up to par, and get whoever they got it from to ship a better one out?
I've actually seen way more complaints about Arsenals lately than WASRs, but maybe I'm not going to the right places.

>If Kalashnikov Concern buys Molot
I've heard rumors that they (KC) already own something like 60%, which is a controlling interest.
I'm sure the Russians are smart enough to not screw it up further, seeing as America is like 85% of their sporting arms market.

Besides, bankruptcy in Russia is wholly different than here.
They literally go bankrupt every few years.
Pretty sure it's just some sort of government shuffle, possibly to keep wages lower.
>We're bankrupt, lay everybody off
A year later
>Business is booming, we need to hire 2,000 new workers

Rinse and repeat ad infinitum.
>>
>>33180920
Eye relief is probably the big challenge using combloc optics on the Yugo rail.

I've always liked my red dots mounted close anyway, so it doesn't bother me - though I have learned to warn friends about scope bite before they shoot it.
>>
>>33180697
>7.62 soviet
>recommending fuckawful barely functional ar lowers
>piston meme
This is pretty good bait.
>>
>>33180988
Well to be fair the M21 rail doesn't really belong on the M70.
I believe it was a request of the people ordering them from Serbia that they have an optic rail.
Yugo rifles, specifically the M70, didn't have them.
So they use what they have, the M21, which was intended for their DM role rifles.

I'm a big Yugo fan, just wish there was more options for optics.

>I'm going with an RS Regulate 307/AKML rail and one of Primary Arms Prismatic ACSS optics for my OPAP
>>
>>33180732
The N-PAP and M92 pistols are literal perfection - I couldn't cope with a special snowflake rifle however. That said they are a great value for the money

This is a PK01v on a WASR.

>>33180828

I do agree WASR's are not the best in QC rifles but as said if you can inspect it , and know what to look for they are hard to beat. Sadly the higher grade rifles are getting more and more lax with production * cough Arsenal cough* and people complain of weight on the RPK style Vepr which I want badly because heavy barrel and receiver makes me hard.

In all arsenal have started to have bad QC to the point it's just a glorified WASR with a diffrent name. Go to a gun show or pawn that has them , inspect ( homework on what to look for , it took me a few days to study before i got mine ) and save a few hundred and you have a good functioning rifle or buy Arsenal/Vepr/Saiga and not worry much on inspection. You do you Anons.

>>
>>33181057
I don't feel particularly limited by the optics choices. Between the RS and Midwest Industries rails, and the handful of AK/SVD optics that work well enough on the NPAPs, there's something for everyone.
Though to be fair, I only got the PK01-VS because I got a great deal on it. I was happy with iron sights too. I'm debating getting an NPAP underfolder for maximum kebab removal and to have an AK without an optic again.

>Buy AK, put optics on it
