Hardly. The problem with third parties is that the usually only have a small number of politicians that have all the requisite traits to carry a large-scale election and tend to be overly receptive to people with political positions that would otherwise be considered fringe due to a need for supporters. That means the loss of a single capable politician can massively set back the party. Look at the Green Party, Ralph Nader helped what was then a coalition of various small parties turn into a coherent minority political party, only for it to turn into a complete clusterfuck once he left.
