It'll be beautifully shot and well acted and make zero fucking sense, just like the last one.

I feel like movie props for scifi guns have become increasingly lazy over the years.
I mean, yeah, the old days guns looked ridiculous and usually bad, but at least they were creative.
>>
>>33165527

Why? It's got the original director. It's taken place after the 2nd movie, so they're not going off the story line of 3 any more.

If any thing, I'm more worried about the new predator movie.
>>
>>33165561
the last one made no sense because the black goo wasn't consistent. It seems they've fucked off with that shit for the most part.

nothing wrong with HAVING it there. The problem was the story centered around it, but it wasn't consistent. Now it is used just as a means to create the new type of Alien.

Until caseless ammo becomes a whole lot cheaper/lighter, there is literally no reason to expect governments to dump money into small arms technology (especially since it's going to be irrelevant for everything but police actions due to pervasive use of drones)
>>
>>33165563
I think part of it has to do with modern guns being more homogenized than they were in the 80s and 90s, so there are less bases to build off or draw inspiration from. The most common rifle is going to be an AR15 with stuff on it, and most pistols are glock-like polymer striker fire 4" barrel ergonomic things.
Not nearly as many weird meme guns crop up, or at least meme guns that look nice.

The point is that they're not even trying. Just because you throw a white rail on an AR doesn't make it look advanced or futuristic.Minimal attention to detail, attempt to build a universe, or imagination and effort.

Costume/set/prop design are extremely important in a sci-fi movie. Why stop short?
>>
>>33165682
I really hated Prometheus, The main woman scientist was pants on head retarded, The Map guy who leaves before everyone else gets lost while everyone else makes it back no problem. The retarded Not Xenomorph on Not LV 426. and i can go on.. Ridley has lost it with his old age and just needs to give the reins to someone else, This new Alien movie looks exactly like Prometheus

Nah, Prometheus was a good film. Some things needed to be explained better, namely David's motivation. Otherwise it was good.

This one looks like Prometheus but with an actual Alien in it, which makes it better.

Really enjoyed one scene in particular:
>geologist(?) 'zombie' goes hulk mode in cargo bay
>handguns, shotguns, flammenwerfers deployed
Wish I could find the concept art for that shotgun. Had what looked like a very minimalist, triangler stock (pic related)
>>
Promethus as originally written and even shot was an ok movie. It was killed in the editing room.

Wayland backed the whole thing to have the Engineers make him immortal. Since he was elderly and sick, and feared death. He though his android creations were enough to make him equal to the Engineers. He has david tell the Engineer as much. Which makes the Engineer angry, and Kill Wayland and David.

David is also working on a secret mission to gather alien science. Wayland and his daughter don't really care about the archaeologists and the origin of life on earth. They're just being greedy asshats. Which is why David puts the black goo in the champagne, and sabotages the expedition.

In Covenant. Naomi Rapace crashes the ship into the engineer homeworld. Which incinerates them all. The black goo gets out on the world and mutates. All the wild life dies because fucking Xenomorphs. Wayland Yutani knows of course. Which is why those colonists are sent. The Old Busted David is still active and will be fighting against the new David.

The Pulse Rifle wasn't introduced yet, but there was the Weyland Storm Rifle in use by the company's security teams. Why are there ARs? Did one of the security guys just really like them? I'm a Property Master in Hollywood. It's a mixed bag, depends how much work people want to do. Creating "new" future guns is expensive. You need to design it, build it, then cast it, make a bunch of them, make a bunch of rubber copies, etc.

It's definitely easier to take an AR or something and slap some bullshit pieces on it. Most 'normies' don't notice or care.

It's funny giant movies like this won't do shit, but some random crap pile like Officer Downe had a custom handgun built to match the comic.

I really liked the assault rifles in Oblivion. Clean, modern, futuristic, but novel.

The weapons in the recent Star Wars movies are all basically AR lowers with shit attached.

I worked with a director once who wrote "Sig P229" into the script and when we did our show and tell about guns he was like "Oh I don't care that's just like one of the guns I knew the name of it's not a cop gun is it?"

Has anyone here read the original script for Prometheus, then called "Alien:Engineers"? It has almost none of the stupid shit that totally ruined the suspension of disbelief in Prometheus. There's stories in the prop master world about some director letting his CoD-loving kid choose all the guns for the show, because the director was some turbolib who couldn't handle thinking about guns. This ended up being the reason for a proliferation of Glocks, Desert Eagles, and FN Five-Sevens... In a 1930s Prohibition series, without any handy time travel to explain it.

Same for some turbolib producer bitching at the armorer company to bring "60s Army guns." Armorer shows up at the set with proper early M16s and M16A1s, to what turns out to be a show about the Roswell UFO in 1947.

Sorry if that's kind of vague, I'm trying not to spoil it.

Sounds a little like Kingdom of Heaven. I liked the edited out version of the engineer zombie, it looked a lot more 25% Xenomorph.

I assume you saw in the trailer, well, they don't have any helmets as you can see in OP Pic, someone steps on some mushrooms and WHOOPSIE WOO HERE COMES THE BLACK GOO into their ear.

>>33165872

The magwell is a little bulky but otherwise I can see it for a 80s gun. Has an AR/FAMAS feel with the sights probably in the grip area. Make the brown sections a bit more recessed and streamlined and it would be plenty feasible.

they weren't nearly cautious enough for the circumstances.

Why would you send actual people to explore and start a colony? When you have androids that are functionally immortal and don't need cry sleep.

Send them out by the hundreds in every ship. They go, explore, report, build, and then help the human colonists.
>>
>>33168812
>Why would you send actual people to explore and start a colony? When you have androids that are functionally immortal and don't need cry sleep.
because the nostromo was a space tugboat, not a colony ship.
>>
>>33168812
They were cautious. Remember how stoic Ripley was when the other astronaut wanted to come aboard with a potentially infected crewmember? They only got inside because the android let them in. In Promethus everyone is just taking helmets off and touching alien cobras.

The android in Alien was nothing more than a turning test machine that could act human but had no free will or actual sentience. If they are given too much free will then they stop following orders and you get psycho bots like David. That's why they can't just send androids only.

Sure. Feel bad for the Property Master/Armorer since he's the one that looks bad in those situations, but the good ones will turn shit like that down rather than look bad.

Even then, if we are on a job like that all we can do is tell them what the guns should be, but they have the final say. If they really want to overrule logic, they can.

There is a real shortage of actual armorers in Hollywood and property masters who actually know guns. There are literally like 5. Best case is the shows hire an armorer from the place they're renting from so at least they know guns, but on lower budget shows they hire whoever, or even mid-budget shows they hire someone who doesn't know shit about guns, and they just rent whatever.

Almost all of the guns used in Hollywood come from like a mixture of 4 places - a really big prop house, two really big armorer/property masters who own shit tons of guns, and one armorer/prop guy who owns a ton and is willing to work cheap.

Prometheus wasnt just full of flaws anon, the entire premise was shakey and the narrative core of the story was dogshit. It was a giant turd with some gold nuggets stuck in it.

G3 and AK will be replaced for a conventional carbine for everything but militia/gureilla use, as is evident by how many countries are moving away from them.

The M16/M4-based platform will still see longterm use by militaries other than the U.S. because the advantages are small for switching over to a new rifle since it uses a stanag round with tons of logistic support. Same can be said about the FAMAS, L85, Styer, G36 and Tavor.

The U.S. will most likely replace the M16/M4, because the Army has been trying to convince congress to replace it, but every test has shown not enough improvement for congress to sign off on it in their next NDAA. Eventually they will, just like the new sig pistol, but they just havent yet.

This guy is absolutely right, and in most of the times, those prop weapons end looking like shit when filmed up-close cause the prop department couldn't be assed to do some basic research on how weapons should actually look like. So you get monstrosities like the Morita rifle from Starship Troopers which lengthier than a Nugget, and has neither rear sights nor front sights. Or pretty much all of the weapons from the (Not) Ghost in the Shell movie.

>good movie

No. It really wasn't. It created 300x the plot holes that the original movie series did and didn't solve any of them.

>excellent visuals

CGI shit and terrible make up? No thanks. The only decent thing they did was the scene from the DVD/Blu-ray where they showed the infected guy going xenomorph instead of ANGRY MONKEY ZOMBIE MAN and that was taken out because Ridley Scott didn't want to 'spoil' shit despite the entire movie being set in Alienverse.

>good job explaining the origins

But it didn't. There were absolutely no xenomorphs in the movie and the 'closest' thing was the monster at the end that bursts out of the spacehonkey which was retardedly designed and executed.

>character motivations

David? Biologist? Geologist? Captain? Everyone in the fucking movie aside from Weyland himself?

They were all fucking retarded. David infecting the guy made no sense when he didn't really give a fuck about Peter Weyland.

Captain was a dick and made no move to do anything other than watch people get fucked.

Biologist was OH HEY ILL STICK MY FACE NEAR THIS FUCKING SNAKE THING.

Geologist was OH HEY LETS WALK AROUND THIS FUCKING PLACE WE HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT AND NOT WAIT FOR THE STORM TO DIE DOWN IN AN HOUR.

Everything in the movie is based purely on assumptions because Ridley Scott edited the movie like a 1st year film student instead of a legitimately good director. He cut out all the character explanations and then expects you to give a fuck about the characters becuzlol.

The movie was a fucking shambles.

Alien worked on the basis the Xenomorph was an unknown element and it's history was up in the air.

Prometheus doesn't work because it's trying to shoehorn in an explanation for everything but ends up creating plotholes and more unexplained elements through poor writing than the movie solved.

>Why are there ARs? Did one of the security guys just really like them? Maybe it belonged to his grandpa who once was a tripfag on /arg/?
Id imagine that they knew/hoped that the majority of these rifles would never be used to fight anything so they grabbed something cheap, reliable and light weight.
>>
Guys, space ARs are cool and all, but I really think we should discuss the bonus situation.

I'm going to assume the black goo/spore shit is some kind of bioweapon left on worlds by the engineers.

And in their defense, its a colonizing mission so I'm assuming they had already determined the atmosphere was safe to breath.

Truly plebeian, what the ever living fuck? CGI is aids and typically already looks terrible by the time the movie has come out on DVD.
I'm so mad about this.

Is that actually confirmed? I thought it was directly after Prometheus.

If it's as you say then Ridley has completely ignored Camerons version and refused to add Pulse Rifles.
>>
>>33180406

The genius of Elysium is that it showed you the have and have-not weapons.

The have-nots had archaic weapons, with some upgrades slapped on. The power suit was a scavenged older design.

The haves had super-weapons and up-to-date power suits.

You have to be in a place that has a movie industry, Hollywood is your best bet, but its possible in NY and possibly like Louisiana.

Step one is to find some connections to the movie world. You're going to want to get hired on as a Production Assistant or if you can find someone who is already in Property let them know you want to do it.

Basically you will have to work non-union just by finding a way in. I got in by letting a friend know I wanted in and one day he was sick and I subbed for him. Every job I've had since then is related to that one job and that was 10 years ago.

Once you work in any capacity on a film, just reach out to the Property Master and Assistant Props guys. Non-union can hire you whenever. You'll have to work on a lot of shit at first probably.

Just be cool and do what they ask and learn the ropes.

Most people will just work as Property Assistants and Assistant Prop Masters their whole careers, moving up to Property Master can be pretty difficult but its basically about just making connections until someone gives you a chance.

So basically a lot of words to say "Move to LA and try to make a connection with someone already in props."

Pretty much the only way to go
