I have an entrenchment shovel from my gramps. It's pretty rusty and I think the threads might be rusty. How should I go about breaking them free and cleaning it up?

Mix some HCL and bleach to form a cleaning agent that'll strip that shit off.

WD40 is all you need

No PB Blaster?
Electrolysis

I tried this but now I'm kind of getting a headache. It doesn't seem to be working that well either. I think I'm just going to fill up a five gallon bucket with it and stir it around with the shovel, maybe that'll do it.

For rust removal over large areas? Naw. There's better shit for that than elf piss.

this stuff works great.
we buy it in 55 gal drums for work.
if its rusty, this will remove the rust.
depending on many factors as to the final look at the end.
how fresh the mix is(less potent over time, if the mix is inky black, time for more), soaking temp(warmer is better), how clean the part being soaked is(cleaner is better).
if metal is really rusty it will be pitted and nothing can be done for that, short of resurfacing.
claims to be non-toxic, but i always have to wear nitrile gloves.
