I wanted to say 1911 but it really set up the 20th century pistol design approach, short recoil and all that, and being grandfather to all the handguns today is not small potatoes. I do feel like it is overrated vis-a-vis the Hipower because 9mm high capacity/double stack is what began to predominate. If not for us burgers .45 would be dead.

I don't think AKs are overrated when you become probably the most ubiquitous and widely produced military firearm in modern history.

I shot a Desert Eagle at a shooting range once. It was a jam-o-matic with about 1-2 malfunctions per mag, and I found that shooting the .44 magnum revolver before it was more accurate and needless to say, more reliable

They can both shoot what they are made for

They both have fine cylinder releases.

smith and wesson makes a lighter yet just as strong gun because they forge their frame. Their stronger frame also allows for opens in the frame so they are easier to work on. while ruger uses cast frame which is heavier and they use a monolithic frame which makes disassembly not necessary harder but not as easy.
