It really doesn't matter. The point of the position is to have your knee stable. So you can rest your elbow and make accurate shots.

Fun fact: That position is for accuracy. If you're training for some bullshit SHTF scenario that will never happen, have your lower knee pointing as foward as you can so you lessen the chance of getting the femoral shot.
