So /k/ I have a legal and serious question about firearm ownership and marijuana use.

>inb4 ATF kills my pupper

Some states say that it's legal to use recreational mj (ie Colorado), but how does firearm ownership work? You still have to fill out a form for your background check, and one of the questions asks if the buyer is a user of mj. You are in a violation of federal law, but in accordance with state law. If you say yes on the form, you fail the test and are denied your constitutional right, but if you lie, its a felony to lie on a federal form. Federal supremacy clause? What do?

You're filling out a federal form, the feds don't give a shit what your state says according to them you an illegal user of a controlled substance. My suggestion is to stop smoking weed because it is totally pointless however, if you lie on the form only you would know but keep in mind if the police ever see weed and guns together in your posession I hope you have a good lawyer. If you stop usinh before you buy the gun you aren't lying. Until its legalized at the federal level you are breaking a law that isn't really enforced unless you are already in trouble for something else.
>>
>>33108289

What do you think?

Weed is only not being cracked down on by the Feds by what is essentially a gentleman's agreement.

Delta force medic here. You simply shouldn't smoke weed if you own or operate firearms. Marijuana is a powerful hallucinogen, it's pretty much guaranteed that you'll ND if you're lucky enough not to overdose.

Just stay away from hard drugs imo. It's not worth it.

I am a medical marijuana grower in Oregon and I smoke weed on the reg recreationally because I'm over 21. Last month I bought a pistol at a local store and when the form asked if I was addicted to any illegal substance including marijuana I checked no. I pack the pistol and my headstash of weed and dabs everywhere I go. Oregon Police and marijuana laws are pretty laxed if you're up front and honest with them. I've been pulled over with the pistol and my AR and a half oz of weed and an 8th of dabs by a state trooper on my way home from shooting. He only cared if the guns were mine and if I was impaired. He let me go with a fix it ticket for the tail light I had out. I guess it depends on where you're at and if you're that paranoid.

Correct and agreed, also I fully acknowledge that what I'm doing with the firearms and marijuana recreationally is illegal and I'm not trying to preach to others to break the law. I'm very comfortable in the area that I live and probably wouldn't venture into the bigger cities with the same confidence I have here honestly. I think I was just trying to give OP an some food for thought.
>>
>>33108289
The DOJ has clarified that, Federally speaking, there is no federally recognized legal use of marijuana.

So on the ATF paperwork, even if you have a prescription you're an illegal use of pot, and if the feds bust you, you're in trouble.

In States where weed and guns are legal, state authorities probably won't because they're not enforcing federal law.
>>
>>33108289
1. Supremacy clause means that literally nobody cares if the state says it's legal, they have no standing to overrule Federal law.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supremacy_Clause
2. If you are found in possession of marijuana they can make the entirely reasonable assumption it's not your first time ever touching the shit, and POTENTIALLY charge you with lying on the 4473. However, less than 1% of people CAUGHT lying on the 4473 are ever prosecuted, and only then when it's slam-dunk levels of guaranteed conviction.
>what do?
Stop smoking weed. Duh. I mean, why is that even a fucking question?

My aging back and spine surgery a few years ago would like a word with you. Have you ever taken opiate pain medications for extended periods of time, legally as prescribed? Cause I have and they fucking suck. Weed makes my back feel better, and god forbid puts me in a good mood.

But, as you said, you're not going to get in trouble for weed and a gun unless you're already doing something illegal. Obviously use your fucking head and don't go out and about in the town, getting high while carrying

>>33108486
Growing up in my home state, weed isn't legal but it's also not a big deal for your first offense. Most cops are bro-tier about it and unless you're being un cooperative or something dangerous and it's normally "alright bud, give me your stash, heres a citation and gtfo", they see it more as a nuisance rather than a dangerous crime, most of then know your average stoner is pretty fuckin harmless. But my point is every time some one has asked a cop about marijuana and getting busted it's usualy "alright guys we know you're gonna do it, just do it at home and stay at home, we're not going to come and arrest you if you're just smoking a joint in your living room minding your own business"

Moral of the story, get high at home, no one's fuckin' with you then. If you do venture out, weigh your options between the risk of having weed and having your guns and leave one or the other at home.

Placebo senpai, marijuana has no known clinical use. That's why it's Schedule I.

what's the matter anon, don't like freedom?
>>
>>33109263

A few reasons, taxation for one, the govt wants their cut.

William Randolph Hurst's timber industry was being threatened by hemp, him being a bigshot hollywood director way back in the day realizes that he can capitalize on the irrational race based fear of the time by making a film (reefer madness) that associates smoking weed with activities minorities participate in, make it seem all horrific and detrimental to white society, then the scared white people voted for legislation against weed, basically

Nixon knew he could lock up an entire group of people who would vote against him, the hippies and the counterculture movement, so he had a bunch of bogus studies conducted in the 60s that showed in monkeys that their braincells were being damaged by the smoke from marijuana.......... but the problem was they were pumping more smoke than oxygen into the fucking monkeys and their brain cells were dying because they were being fucking suffocated

And last but not least, if the govt admits marijuana is no big deal, then that whole costly 'war on drugs' the govt has been waging for years now in futility will mean nothing and they will have to eat crow. Which they aren't going to do. Then theres that whole releasing the wrongfully imprisoned for weed charges thing
>>
>>33109589
Get that fucking boot out of your mouth.

Yeah because we know the govt is nothing but benevolent and is perfect and only has our best intentions in mind, right?

Shut the fuck up before you talk to me. If I could will my back pain away, I sure as shit would

>>
>>33109589
But prescribing everyone legal heroine that's 50 to 100x stronger than regular heroine ia perfectly fine, right?

Neck yourself. Let me guess, you don't have a problem with alcohol because it's 'legal' right?
>>
>>33109515
fuck opioid pain meds, had cancer twice and opioids suck to be on and suck worse trying to get off of them. The worst part is you take them to get rid of pain so you feel ok but mentally feel like shit then you form a dependence on them so you have to take them to keep from withdrawling and take more to control pain then when the pain is gone it takes forever to get off of them because if you dont take them for more than 12 hours you get shakes cold sweats and dysentery tier dirreah. I live in Wa so getting a medical card wouldnt be an issue but to be honest I didnt need one so I just used conventional meds. I know people that use medical for lots of different things and for those it helps it really does help. I dont give a shit about recreational users but it should at least be legal federally for medical use.
>>
>>33109677
Which is fine for YOU. Just because that worked with you, doesn't mean marijuana is useless as medicine. Sometimes if you have a botched surgery they have to try different medications until they find one that works... kind of like how I tried you name it any combination of high/low powered pain meds and muscle relaxers until i realized taking a muscle relaxer when back spasms persist and smoke for pain I am much better off all around, than constantly being on legal heroine

Opiates lead to depenancy and addiction. Just like >>33109905 said. And opiate dependency leads to death

NSAIDs are fucking horrible for your heart in large doses over time.

Acetaminophen destroys your liver in large doses over time.

Weed I destroy my dorritos, and eat my kids lucky charms in large doses and keep buying shitty microwave burritos over time. God forbid I hack up a little phlegm in the morning once in a while, oh no, it's probably cancer
>>
>>33110092
dependency isnt addiction necessarily and itd lead to alot less death if doctors were allowed to maintain an addiction so addicts could at least not be shooting elephant traqs

dont get me wrong i know they have their dangers but its retarded to pushing something that is a psychological inevitably
>>
>>33109589
Placebo is still as powerful as something that physically works in terms of perception of the person in pain, look up merinol it is literally thc in sesame seed oil. Commonly used for nausea and appetite supplement in cancer patients. Oddly enough it is a schedule 2 drug. I am the anon who had cancer twice and from my experiance just because something is not widely medically recognized as working does not mean it wont work. My meds gave me super high cholesterol and they wanted me on statins, I did some research and instead took niacin supps (with the oncologists blessing). They just took me off niacin because my cholesterol was too low. I mean everyone is different and that is what makes medecine hard, people react differently to meds or do better on certain meds. For some marijuana is a wonder drug and for others it does jack shit. Just like opioids give most people euphoria but make me feel like shit. Many modern meds are based off of botanicals, one of my chemo agents was made from a lichen found growing in scotland. Just because there is no clinical evidence currently supporting something does not mean it doesnt work. There are new developments and discoveries in the pharma field every day.
>>
>>33110154

>>
On the new 4473's that came out at the first of the year it specifically states now on the question about marijuana if you are in a legal state it doesn't mater, its still FEDERALLY illegal and you are filling out a FEDERAL form.... So if you check "no" to that question and you smoke it legally in your state, you are lieing on a federal form... now i highly doubt anyone is going to check that, but there is that risk.... and with Trump saying he is going to start cracking down on REC states.... who knows... be careful...

Source: I work at a gun shop / range.
>>
>>33110224
the reason you process the plant is so you can extract the active ingredient and actually have enough for a theraputic dose. I will also admit chemo is a whole different animal than cannabinoids. Cytotoxic chemo agents probably require more to work active chemical to work properly. I do agree with you on opioids though, cutting people off cold turkey only causes trouble and addiction. I know the need to keep people from becoming addicted to opioids but make a taper off the drug and listen to the patient dont pull a VA and go nah man you just want to get high then fuck over some marine who got both his legs blown off.

>>
>>33110539
Holy fuck you are retarded. It causes 'short term memory loss' which is no big deal because it's usually things like, "oh shoot I hope I closed my garage door before I left" then you drive around the block and it was closed the whole time. Your short term memory loss/forgetfulness comes back after you stop smoking for a couple days and is GREATLY exaggerated by movies. I run a fucking business and have a college degree and do just fine. Weed isn't for everybody, I function high all the time and the vast majority of people have no idea.

You know why they say brain damage is caused by marijuana? Because when they conducted those studies they gave the monkeys more fucking smoke than air and their brain cells atrophied because of oxygen deprivation, not because of the marijuana

>get high and drive and do other things that can be dangerous even while not high can increase your risk if you are high
Yeah, we know

>school and work can be hard when you're high
Yeah we know. Don't go to work high, especially if your job is dangerous. I was high constantly in college, funny thing it seemed to help me as I was more interested in the subject.

>marijuana unmotivates people
It's not for everybody. Some people get drunk and start fights when they drink. Some people just want to get high and play playstation, or do whatever. If you're an introvert and you wanna get high you do introvert things. If you're an extrovert you get high and go ride your bike in the park or some shit. There are LOTS of functioning stoners, most of them you would never know because they don't want to lose their job from it

>cannabis contains carcinogenic compounds
Yeah no shit, you're burning shit and inhaling it. If you inhale anything but oxygen into your lungs it's bad for you but that shit kills you too (oxidation). This is why you partake in edibles for medication. They also have vaporizers, which is what most doctors for medical marijuana recomend because it reduces the harmful effects from smoke.

>correlation between marijuana and schizophrenia
If you're schizo chances are it runs in your family and is probably going to manifest itself at some point in your life anyways

>crazy people are more crazy when they're high
Who'da thought

Now flip through your book and find the one on alcohol. I bet it's longer. I'm not saying marijuana is completely harmless, but for a lot of people out there, it's no big deal and they keep it under thumb
