why was the 90's so fucking weird?

Which gun is the best? All 4 are pretty good so I cant decide.

>>33101892
not the guy you quoting, but from the ACR 90s video, the 3-round burst seems to have a siginificant kickback
>>

The one that does not blow microscopic flechette needle dust to your eyes.
>>
>>33101915
You mean fiberglass?
>>
>>33101019
none of them were 150% better than the m16
also weird shit like sabot bouncing off the ground and causing injury to the shooter
other problems like rain drops being able to deflect the steyr flechette
>>
>>33101019
The Army has been interested in flechette rifles since the 1950s. The idea of an ultra lightweight low recoil round is just too tempting.

US army was trying to do burst since the 60s. Only recently did they finally totally drop the idea and went to airburst grenades instead. They're trying to increase hits on targets and lower time to kill. In practice, red dot sights have done the best job of this but those only became 'good' in the past 25-ish years.

Why DON'T we use caseless ammo or flechette rounds if they penetrate body armor and are like half the weight?
What went wrong?
>>
>>33101892
Did you even watch the video?
>>
>>33102716
>Flechette rounds
They violate the Geneva Convention, it's a war crime to use them.
>>
Well we got the 203 out of the earlier programs so they're ok in my book
We really ought to ditch the semi auto grenade function for a manual repeater however. Save that for when power infantry exoskellingtons are a thing. That, or make a ton of new mini-LAWs.
>>
>>33102823
Literally why
>>
>>33102716
According to what I read about the SPIW, flechettes deflected too easily even from light angled cover. They also didn't cause the kind of wounding wanted since they don't really fragment like a bullet.

I think with caseless, it was just a situation of the required weapon being too complicated for field use. Look at the guts of a G11 vs an M16. A soldier can strip and M16.
>>
>>33102823
> inb4 Aphache rocker pods can have them
>>
>>33102848
The 'action pack' of the G11 was hermetically sealed. If it failed, they were designed to be swapped out in minutes just by pulling it out and slapping a new one in. They really weren't supposed to fail though.
>>
>>33102823
>it's a war crime to use them.
>killing people who commit war crimes is a war crime
what. why eurocucks are such cucks?
>>
>>33102940
Yeah, but there was the issues of the forward loading being less than ergonomic, along with it being a fuckhuge plastic box.

The ammo is kind of fragile and really needs something(like a metal case) to protect it as loose rounds, or in a soldier's ruck.
>>
>>33102848
The G11 was tested and about to be adopted by West Germany. The only reason they didn't use it was money. The system is reliable.

the just need to swap the forward loading to a sideswivel loading, imagine the quickswap barrel of a mg42 but with a magazine

Interesting. As one of those people that are sexually attracted to over-engineering the shit out of things, I could get behind this.

The flechette weapons scored significantly worse than the non-flechette weapons in the ACR tests.

We didn't sign the Hague treaty. International law with "muh war crimes" doesn't really apply to the US

Caseless ammo can heat your gun up faster than brass case. Also you don't want that shit to get wet senpai
>>
Tell me something about the G11, phams, I see that you insert the magazine in the central slot located right above the muzzle and beneath the optic, but it has three of these slots and in the video with Japanese operator, you see at the least two magazines inserted in these slots. Why is that? Is it like something to ease the transition between different magazines?
>>
>>33103538
Just a space for a spare magazines. The single stack G3 magazines are kinda unwieldy, so they stored them inside the rifle. Bundeswehr liked it, because even with 3 mags and 135 rounds the G11 was still lighter than a G3 with 20 rounds and a scope.

Soldier would carry rest of the ammunition in sealed 15 round clips. A really neat system, if you ask me.
>>
Telescoped plastic cased ammo is the future, anyone else with me here?
>>
>>33103665
The 90's called, they want their theory on the future of arms and ammunition back.
>>
>>33103665
I don't see it happening widescale for 30 years but the LSAT program indicates that's probably the direction we're going in.
>>
>>33103665
Cased telescoped is a stopgap solution.
>>
>>33103649
>even with 3 mags and 135 rounds the G11 was still lighter than a G3 with 20 rounds and a scope

holy fucking shit. how much of this thing was polymer? wasn't this 1990?

Seriously was that big of a weight difference the caseless ammo or a good bit the gun itself?
>>
>>33103698
The G3 is one heavy cunt
>>
>>33103708

I just looked it up, 9 pounds. G11 came in at 8 pounds. Either that statement was just purely anecdotal or that ammo is virtually weightless.
>>
>>33103665
what advantage does that have over brass cased ammo?
>>
>>33103708
It's pretty funny that the main points of a roller-delayed action is that they are light and cheap to manufacture because there is no gas piston. G3 is neither cheap nor light.

Time to upgrade to a larger caliber/more powerful round
>>
>>33103756
CT is the polymer cased one.
>>
>>33103763
Maybe a round that, compared to the 5.56x45 nato, has an increased propellant charge with a lighter bullet so that the recoil stays the same but you get more joules.
>>
>>33103723
It's 3,6 kg for empty G11 with a scope and 4,1 for standard army issue G3 without one.

1 round of 7,62 NATO weights 25,5 grams, but 1 round of 4.73×33mm is 5,2.

Soon we will finally issue combi bolters. The heretics will feel the cleansing fire of prometheum and hellfire rounds.
