You live in possibly the best state for gun laws. You don't need a permit, you just have to be able to pass a background check if you want a gun from a gun store. Private sales just require you to both be residents of the same state. Go to a gun store where you can try lots of guns out. It's a crime to carry in a business that displays pic related. The law only applies to businesses that serve alcohol and a couple other types of places. The wording on the sign must be exactly as prescribed. "No weapons" signs in other types of businesses have no legal weight. If they notice you're carrying, they can ask you to leave. If you don't, then it becomes misdemeanor trespass.

I unfortunately have no idea. With all the vegetation in the more verdant areas, I would assume so, but it's also pretty pricey in those parts. I basically live in Chino, which is more arid for the most part, the woman who lived in the home before us had all kinds of gardens and whatnot. There's a shit ton of BLM land out here used for cow grazing too. There's also a bunch of Pronghorn and Whitetail.
