Low level photo-reconnaissance is the most underrated role.

Going into uncharted territory, getting extremely close to the enemy and escaping with the photos was extremely crucial for accurate air attacks.

Because late 50's-60's stuff for the most part got replaced pretty quickly with stuff that has been upgraded and kept around.
Just pretend the b-52/f-4 don't exist to make that statement more accurate.
