With the reliability, and durability of modern optics, are BUIS still necessary?
Is it worth sacrificing eye relief for something that likely won't be used?

yes you faggot

Fpbp

You can have both and it's silly not to figure out that solution, even if you're Frank Proctor.
Taking for example, pic related, it's fucking CCO and doesn't have set eye relief, so not putting some folding BUIS behind it is just silly.

Modern optics can still be damaged.
You always want a back-up option.

Frank Proctor has a video answering this very question. There's also people like Bill Blowers that don't bother with irons at all because of how durable optics are nowadays along with having a second sighting system such as a laser.

What your point? It's silly not to have BUIS if it's available. Maybe that Marine didn't have folding BUIS in inventory, so it's not his particular fault. But anybody with the option to BUIS should.
Also, for people who parrot shit and get into the whole ACOG eye relief thing. If it's really so bad with flip BUIS (I've personally never had a problem), use some top mounted BUIS. Simple.

People who think that having BUIS means that you must be sacrificing eye relief are either being disingenuous or uncreative.
There is literally no reason you can't have both.
Iron sights are obsolete. If your optics fails (it won't), rifles these days are accurate enough that you can just aim them in the general right direction and you can still rack up the kills.

Seen a dude have his ACOG get shot. He had to use irons until they could fly out a new ACOG for him. So...

I don't get shot at.
