Think about what you want to do and start taking classes.
The fact that you don't know what you need to do to be a gunsmith means you should humble yourself and enroll in a gunsmith school.
But if there's something else you'd rather do, you should do that. Don't blow a load of money on classes you don't want to take. There's no reason you couldn't dick around and bubba nuggets in your garage as a hobby.

There's no fucking way you got out of the military and they didn't make you out process and give you a ton of info about the gi bill.

But also m8 being a gunsmith is pretty shit, all the good work is being done by machinists now.

Also the gun industry is suffering now that no one is panic buying products, so machinist would be a better bet as you can do more than just fix bubbuhs deer rifle.

Tldr: go talk to counselor on post about how to be a machinist. Tons of gun companies need machinists.

Get training as a CNC machinist and apply at any of the major manufacturers, they're almost always looking for CNC operators.

were you an armorer? if not then yes you do. also you have to be certified to work on many brands of weapons,which means more schooling, you will also need to learn some machining skills,as the firearm market relies heavily on these skills. now if you were smart you sighned up for the school money gi bill stuff during indoc, if so you can get all this done almost for free,as many schools work with vets as well as the gi money. also look into working as an apprentice at some gun manufacture plant, or gun shop where youll be able to make some money to boost your income and learn skills youll need in the future.if all you can say is your a marine and dont need any of this,then youll get no where in this field.

Be prepared for a difficult time if you don't find a stable gunsmith job right off. I know a part time retail worker who is a licensed gunsmith. He has spoken with businesses in a couple different states about trying to get a job with no luck yet.
