WW2 vets seem to have far less problem than Nam vets. WW2 vets were celebrated and Nam vets were called baby killers.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but I read that after WW2 the US did a survey and found out that only 25% of their troops ever fired their guns, and only 2% actually shot to kill, the rest just shot in the general direction of the enemy. After that they started implementing reflex based training, targets shaped like men, etc. based on Skinner and his findings in regards to psychology.
So in Vietnam and nowadays you have tons of people who would have never even fired their gun instead shooting to kill based on reflex, and now they have to deal with the consequences of a decision they didn't make.
