There are 7,500,000 of them in America.

The Remington 700 is defective and fires randomly without even pulling the trigger. People have died from it. The company admits nothing and have recalled nothing.

The 2nd amendment doesn't let the government recall guns like they would a stroller or a toy with lead in it.

How will the free market fix this?

>The 2nd amendment doesn't let the government recall guns like they would a stroller or a toy with lead in it.

those companies issue recalls
>>
>>33054786
>remingtons sales tank more than even now when people find out of the OOB firing
>this gives remington incentive to unfuck the design and recall the rifles
winchester did it with their 1893/1897 shotguns.
they knew people were gonna put smokeless instead of black powder in the 93s and blew them up so they let owners of 93s trade them in for a free 97, and then destroyed the 93s.
wouldn't be surprised if it happened with these.
>>
>People have died from being infront of a loaded rifle
That's their own fault

Free market fixes it by allowing customers to sue the company for damages and shit
>>
Or you can follow gun safety and assume your loaded and active weapon could fire at any time, especially on a fucking bolt action
>>
>>33054880
>allowing customers to sue
How can you sue if your dead? It seems pretty abominable to let this knowingly happen or at least continue.
>>
>>33054786

>>
>>33054948
>what are families
>what are estates
Also, plenty of guns on the market have a tendency to go off, that's why the first thing you learn is never point a loaded weapon at someone, especially if you already cycled the fucking bolt
>>

The walker trigger did nothing wrong.
>>
>>33054786
>NEVER POINT THE GUN AT ANYTHING YOU DO NOT INTEND TO DESTROY
>>
>>33054786
I wonder how many of those assholes fucked with their x mark trigger.

700s don't just go off.

Someone should tell CBS the Army's M24 and Marines M40s are built on 700 actions.
>>
>>33055004
What if someone was out of line of sight? What if a ricochet hit someone. At what point do you think selling a defective dangerous gun is okay?

>Oh sorry your loved one got killed by our "mistake"
>This money will totally bring them back
>>
>>33055059

exactly thats what i dont get
>>
>>33055082
If you're out of line of sight, you're most likely out of line of fire. Frankly I can't see a situation where you're doing everything right and getting hit by a misfire, especially since this is a bolt action rifle that you have to manually cycle to set the pin. You know when it's dangerous to be around and so should everyone else. If you still manage to get hurt after knowingly loading and cocking it, you must be a special kind of retarded.
>>
>At what point do you think selling a defective dangerous gun is okay?
>>33055224

Answer that one friend. Any gun sold should be safe to leave loaded.
>>
>>33055249
>should be safe to leave loaded
Why do you think this? And why do you think it should be safe while COCKED AND SET TO FIRE
>>
>>33055249
>leaving a durr rifle loaded
why?

it's not like it's an effective home defense gun, it's slow and meant for long range
>>
>>33055408
Guns SHOULD not go off unless the trigger is pulled.
>>33055414
Just because someone doesn't agree with your hd ideas(not that I disagree). It doesn't mean they deserve to put themselves and others in danger due to a manufacturer putting out a defective gun.
>>
>>33054786

Remington DID recall the rifles for potentially unsafe triggers both in Canada and the USA you dumb lie spreading piece of shit.

>people will defend Remington

Watch the video. In 1975 their own internal tests showed the fucking gun could go off by itself and they still sold it. This is the Ford Pinto all over again.
>>
>>33055468
But they do time and time again. Almost every design ever has had misfires, some more commonly than others. I know you have never owned firearms because the first thing you learn is to treat a gun like it will go off at any time. Please educate yourself before posting here again

There was a recall in 2014 dipshit.

That video was actually extremely reasonable and I say this as someone who has a short trigger for anti-gun agenda pushing.

No anti gun agenda, just stating the pure facts about how Remington is fucking retarded. Buy any gun you want, just don't support that shit company.

The gentleman slightly misstated the 2nd Rule of Gunhandling, which reads:

"RULE 2: NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY."

"You may not wish to destroy it, but you must be clear in your mind that you are quite ready to if you let that muzzle cover the target. To allow a firearm to point at another human being is a deadly threat, and should always be treated as such."

From Jeff Cooper's"Commentaries", Volume 6, Number 2.

You you may not want to destroy your wall, but if you did you'd be basically OK with it.

So what, mechanically, design-wise, is actually wrong with the 700 action?

Other pushfeed bolt actions (Savage, etc) don't have this kind of problem. What is the defect in design that makes the 700 just go boom sometimes?

I haven't owned one or detail stripped one.

Apparently it's a defect with the production, some sort of cosmoline-like jamming up the mechanisms. The recalled rifles get a thorough cleaning and sent back.
>>
>>33055969
the guy who designed the rifle said it was shit and said they should have included a trigger lock(and the company said that would have been objectively the best design) but remington didnt do it because it would have cost 5 cents more per rifle

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oS_GDpZM3ak

around 24:40 when they talk with the guy who designed the rifle
>>
>>33055897
Apparently there's 2 issues in play here. This is based on 30 minutes of google and forum browsing, so it's all subject to verification.

Earlier 700s had a Walker Fire Control System trigger group. This had a number of adjustments that the user could make, including trigger break weight. Users were adjusting their triggers to 1 pound or less, rendering the rifle likely to fire in a strong breeze even with the safety engaged.

Remington got enough complaints about the Walker trigger that they replaced it with the XMP trigger. This apparently had a manufacturing flaw whereby you could engage the safety, squeeze the trigger and have the gun fire when you released the safety. Somehow, too much bonding agent in the trigger group assembly process was the culprit.

That's my understanding of the issue.
>>
>>33055468
yeh nah. Plenty of benchrest guns have triggers so light a bees dick can set them off.

dont point a loaded gun somewhere where it will cause harm and you will be safe from cauaing harm forever.

A serving military mate of mine had an ND when hunting at the camp once. Because he isnt a complete retard it went harmleslly into a tree and not the car or me.

Buy a better trigger obviously. I'm still not paying over $800 for a mostly plastic rifle.

kys dumb fuck companies issue recalls not the government. Occasionally a company is compelled to recall by consumer protection but MOST recalls are voluntary.

Also I have 3 Remington 700s, and I've been shooting them for years, never heard of this shit.
