It's a great shotgun. It's just harder to mod than a 500.

It's basically a Mossberg 500 without a tang safety and a couple parts made cheaper.

I have that exact model. I've owned mine for 3 years and use it almost weekly. Got it for $150 OFF Armslist.

Literally never had a single problem with mine. After shooting it a couple times, I buffed and polished any parts that might have rubbed. Also replaced the pump.

One day out shooting, my friends couldn't believe that my 88 was smoother than their Gucci 500's.

I recommend it! 500's & 590's are great too. But for the price -- 88 all the way.

Changing out the pump grip is harder than it is on other designs.

Extended mag tube requires replacing the whole mag tube assembly.

if you think the 500 is gucci compared to the 88, you are in for a surprise if you were to get any other gun ever.

Please note that some models of 500 have the cheaper Maverick pump handle and action bars.

Mine did, I didn't notice until I tried to change the pump handle and couldn't.
