Aliens show up at your place. They tell you you'll star in one of their reality TV shows where you'll be sent back in time to 10000BC. The location will stay the same. You are allowed to bring 10 items with you to help you survive. If you can survive for 20 years, you'll be returned to your time without having aged a day and will be paid 100 million $$$ tax free. Which items do you pick? What is your strategy?
>>
>>33045004
How big are the items?
If there's no size limit, I take a nuclear submarine and 9 tons of food.

You have to be able to carry the 10 items on your own.

How many rounds of ammunition count as an item?
>>
>>33045377
>How many rounds of ammunition count as an item?

irrelevant. you can bring as much as you can carry on your own. for example, you can bring a kajak that you can carry but you can't bring a motorboat. you can bring a bike but you can't bring a hayabusa. if 15k rounds of .338 Winchester Magnum is what you can carry with your other shit than this is what you can bring counting as one item.

care to explain how a 12 gauge is a bad selection when your goal is to feed yourself?

I already hunt deer with my shotgun in the real world. I would select the same gun regardless of time period. I hunt in densely wooded areas and every deer I've ever taken has been within 50 yards, including when I used to hunt with a .308. a slug puts 'em down just as quick, believe me. but if I happen to see a grouse or rabbit on the trail I can pop in some #4 birdshot and take them with the same gun. other firearms do not have that capability.

I probably shot around a dozen extra grouse I otherwise wouldn't have last deer season thanks to my 12 gauge. I think it's a great choice... unless you are imagining some prehistoric combat scenario?
>>
Had to think for awhile. As I'm in Wyoming and that would have been a sheet of ice most likely.

1. 44 mag revolver
2. Tikka t3 in 308
3. My hatchet
4. Buck knife
5. Tarp
6. Fuckton of ammo
7. 2-3 hundred feet of wrapped parachord
8. Flint steel (with extras)
9. Down jacket with removeable fleece liner
10. Waterskin

Tarp and parachord to help my shelter be a little more water proof than just plants. Fleece liner will be my go to during warm summers but then again most likely be frozen so down wins.

.308 to hunt mammoths and other large beasts for food / scare of tribesmen from afar.

44 mag revolver for in case I ding out I just fucked up big time: e.g. Saber cats and dire wolves or worse.

>pacific northwest
k
>care to explain how a 12 gauge is a bad selection when your goal is to feed yourself?
it's not bad but it's also not really ideal imo, especially if you consider that the NA magafauna 12ka ago was much bigger than today... shotgun is versatile as you describe below but I sort of have my doubts too at times...

>unless you are imagining some prehistoric combat scenario?

would that be so far fetched?
>>
>>33045004
further rules explanation:

If you bring a gun, the gun is ONE item. The ammo for that gun counts as another separate item. How many rounds you can bring counting as one item depends on how much you can carry; remember that 10krds of 7.62x39 will weigh in at 163kg - so you are not bringing that much.
>>
>>33045328
Lol as much as i hate to admit it, this is pretty true. Its different though later but still every once in a while

4 8'' firesteel
5 3 quart stainless pot + lid set
6 AKM
7 2k rds of AKM ammo
8 HOWA HOGUE in .338 Winchester Magnum
9 2k rds of .338WM ammo
10 backpack

1. bike with bags on the sides and a basket on the front
2. .22 rifle
3. 2k rounds for said rifle
4, 5, and 6. books on primitive crafts, blacksmithing and woodworking
7. six inch blade
8. axe
9. those little patches that come with glue to fix holes in bike tires
10. firesteel
my plan would be to wow any ''people'' with my supercharged slingshot and fire making abilities. Then I'd wow them with my powers to teach them to make shit like baskets then I'd tell the aliens to eat shit and begin building weapons to take over the continent. I don't even know if people existed all over North America during 10000 BC. I'd also get the fuck out of primitive Florida, it's a hellhole now, imagine 12 thousand years ago.

They're called panniers. Also bicycle inner tubes don't last very long, you can only patch them up a couple times. If you're doing some serious distance with it loaded down, that could be as short as a few weeks.

I'd recommend a cart or a stair-trolley if you're looking for something to haul with, old school style solid rubber bicycle tyre if you're looking to travel with. I dunno when they went extinct, but maybe there's some horses in America back then too?
>>

The fact that solid rubber tyres were around for decades whereas those never caught on makes me suspect they have some disadvantages.

6. My Bcm jack-a with acog
7. 3k rounds
8. 50 lbs of salt
9. 240 disposable Bic lighters (figuring 1 lighter per month at a total weight of 10 lbs, I can make fire with or without a fire steel but why? A lighter would just be more convenient)
10. A package of heirloom seeds.

My strategy would be: in on the north GA mountains. That should be a sufficient environment to sustain life. I could use the axe to build a nice log cabin with stylish modern undertones. I would use the cast net for rainbow trout because fuck you DNR in 10000 bc. If I wanted to travel I would hollow out a tree and kayak my ass to the ocean where life is sure to be more abundant. The Richie would be used very very sparingly for hunting and that deterrent. I would need to procure some neanderthal pussy. Maybe I should change an item to a razor so she can shave that hairy thang. Since the first people were nogs anyway at the end of the 20 years I would step out on her and my kids. Return to the present with my millions.

I don't need to do it for 20 years, I only need to research whatever I need once, and I will write a summary if there's something I could forget (on birch bark). I already have decent survival skills, so I won't need it immediately. After that I think I'd only need it to last like a couple of years, working for an hour or two a month on average, so that's no more than 48 hours total, which is well within what those phones could last, especially in flight mode.

I understand the importance of a boomstick in this situation, but quite frankly an understanding of the native language would be the most important. Another important factor would be whatever kinds of illnesses that are floating around that your immune system has never encountered before. Your best bet would be to become a quasi spiritual figure for a tribe, and teach them things like basic sanitation and basic logic. This is assuming they even have a language beyond grunts at the point you're transported to. Other things not accounted for: climate, lack of ability to find other humanoids, and potential upset of the balance of power between tribes.

Horses came from North America originally...

1. Bred Jennie goat
2. Belgian Shepherd bitch bred to Border Collie.
3. That jailbait chickie from the gym, if rules allow, or a dog carrier with 3 hens and a cockerel if they don't.
4. Dry rations sufficient to get me and animals into summer packed in reusable metal cans
5. 30 lb crate of trade hawk heads, spear heads, arrow heads, and metal fish hooks.
6. Solar panel, tablet, bluetooth speaker, rechargeable flashlight
7. Duluth Pack Paul Bunyan 155 liter full of cold weather gear and camping durable midlayer clothes.
8. .45 caliber Flintlock double rifle, minie ball bullet mold, 15 lbs lead ingots, filled powder horn.
9. Shoemaker's leather working tool and knife set
10. Folding or inflatable boat sufficiently large enough to carry all above.

I'm going to emerge in a triangle formed by a colossal melt water lake and several monstrous rivers draining it. The flow should be comparably quiet due to winter, but I need to escape this box to get further south to set up a decent farm, the soil hasn't regenerated here yet from the glacial scouring. Once I'm out of the box and reach the tree lines, I haft the spears and a few of the hawks, build a bow (or two if I have a companion), and make a travois for dragging muh gear.

If I've got chickens instead of a tight little hard body blonde companion, I seek to trade some hawk heads for a bedwarmer when I find natives willing to trade.

Then I find a defendable location with secure access to water, and get a stockade built. Once we've got a surplus going, we start to expand our livestock populations and trade.

Dude, you are transported to 10000 BC. People had proto-language 200000 years ago, and fully developed language no later than 75000 years ago. In 10000 BC there were large settlements and proto-cities of the first agrarian cultures.

It's the end of the Ice Age, or rather the first millenia after it. You'll have a hard time finding Mammoths in Europe, but they are still somewhat common in Siberia. Neanderthals are long gone though.

Believe me, there won't be any problems with that.

20 years is a long time and I think most of us will die from illness. It only takes a cold or something worse and then you become extremely vulnerable.

That being said, I would spend most of my time doing cave art. I would draw elaborate murals depicting aliens coming down from the sky, educating mankind, and create the idea that we were born from aliens.

I would recreate our solar system on caves, do math related art, draw art of spaceships, phones, communications, different types of technology, electricity, computers, and make paintings of myself as being the first "man" and try to create a religion surrounding myself. I would detail an elaborate scripture writings of myself about how I was born from aliens and I would create this everywhere. I think that would be fun and it would puzzle scientists for eternity.

If I survived the 20 years, it would be interesting to see how humanity changed. Would we still have the same dominant religions of today? Or would people follow the religion of my creation?

I'd head south until I got to a more favorable climate near other humans, set up a homestead and start growing pot. Modern marijuana is more potent than anything they'd have around at that time, so I'd get the natives hooked and then trade it to them for supplies. Over time I'd build myself a fortress and big ole wall around my dope field. I would introduce capitalism and the concept of hired labor. Eventually I would build a small trading empire and then just sit pretty until the timer ran out.
>>
>>33054407
>millennia later students are taught that capitalism was invented by the legendary merchant "Dood Whiid ElMau"
>>
>>33054407
Well the locals wouldn't have had access to any marijuana, because it's from central Asia.

I don't know what North American fibres are around, but you could make rope out of it too, which would be extremely useful 12,000 years ago.

Rope's pretty easy to make once you know the basic premise, you could make paper and something like cloth/linen potentially too but I wouldn't trust my ability to be able to work that out compared with rope.
>>
>>33054975
Exactly. Clothing and paper too. Between weed and hemp you'd be able to trade with pretty much anyone.
>>
>>33047561
I was thinking about the back side of the axe could be used as a hammer, and if I could actually do some blacksmithing, making a rudimentary hammer using the back of an axe could be easier than making a rudimentary machete or shovel with a hammer.

It's a difficult choice, because you have to weigh up which tools are best to have in modern high quality, and which would be easy enough to reproduce with no previous experience but the benefit of 12,000 years of hindsight.

That's why I opted not to bring any flints, whetstone, or grinding tools. They're relatively unprocessed, un-manufactured goods that I don't think it's worth it.

I'm still not sure whether a pick or a shovel is the better choice though, but went with the shovel in the end.
>>

All of this could be had at under 100 pounds, which is a heavy load but serviceable. Use the hand tools and books to craft bow/arrows and a shelter. Plant a small homestead at the foot of a mountain to grow your grain/taters while giving access to a higher elevation to keep the coffee going. Hunt opportunistically while you tend the gardens. Enjoy your blissful life far away from civilization and even if you totally fuck up, at least you'll spend your last days coked up like crazy.

You don't even need to know the language, if you have a gun it puts you miles ahead of them. Hell, they might even think you are a God and bring you food and shit because you can kill things from a distance, in a second.
>>
>>33045948
HE TAKES A .22 RIFLE.

THIS GUY.

You can carry a million snares for the weight of the rifle and ammo, and anything you can kill with it you can catch with snares, plus they're reusable and you can catch far more food than you can taking the time to hunt. A .22 is negated for survival purposes for this reason. Bring a real gun that can take down untrappable game and also be used for defensive purposes.

Stop saying .22s are "survival rifles". This fudd meme needs to end. They're a now overpriced bb gun.
>>
>>33046346
>a Zippo lighter
>dries out after 2 days and you're left trying to make fire with the Flint

Just use a Bic they last like 20,000 lights or get a magnesium firestarter. Keeping fire going for as long as possible was a virtue back then so get your fuel stacked up beforehand. That one lighter or a pack may actually last through the years.

when did I ever say .22 is a survival gun? It's a light weight gun with light weight bullets meaning more holes in whatever lives in prehistoric Florida. Snares aren't going to do shit because everything is fuck huge, you can't claim that .22 is going to do nothing then say that snares are effective. Why don't you just make snares? You can't make a gun while you stuck in 10000 bc but you can make a snare.
