Are there any promising pistol mechanisms that could, with further development, beat out the Browning tilting barrel design?
>Gas delayed like a Steyr GB is too dirty
>Locking block is needlessly complex and weaker
>Rotating barrel can't use suppressors and is weaker
But then there are roller delayed/locked, flapper delayed/locked, rotating bolt and other systems that haven't been tested too thoroughly.
>>
not really.

browning action is very simple and reliable. especially in things like glocks and glock clones.
>>
>>33031638
See, that's the only answer I wasn't looking for. Let's have some fun here.
>>
>>33031625

Something to totally eliminate the recoil impulse would be the next step in evolution.

no

Straight blowback is god-tier for smaller rounds.

I agree, and they already dominate that market. I guess I should've specified I was talking about beating out the tilting barrel in guns/calibers where it's actually used.

I own a cz52. I even shoot it and conceal carry it sometimes. I even have like 1300 rounds of bulgarian surplus steel core ammo. you know the kind that sails through anything that isn't a rifle rated plate.

i'm just worried the pistol will kaboom on me one day.
>>
>>33032108
Any advantages you notice over other pistols? Softer recoil, more reliable, whatever. I get the feeling it's not the right answer due to all the problems delayed blowbacks seem to have-fouling, harsh recoil, etc.
>>
>>33031978
I've shot one of these, I could not intentionally cause a malfunction. I would definitely own one.
>>
>>33031625
>Rotating barrel can't use suppressors
Wait, really? Why not?
>>
>>33032138
not really. my other full size is a hi power 9mm. the CZ is just a bit strong in the felt recoil, fireball, and noise categories.

It is just a neat safe queen to have. also a good SHTF pistol. Since it can defeat soft armor.

makes the police that shoot at my local gun store range, turn to see what i'm shooting.
>>
>>33032154
suppressor comes off.

>>
>>33031927
In a pistol that would require an incredibly low bore axis and a two stage recoil spring.
>>
>>33032002
Someone develop a good blow-forward
>>
>>33032184
>Two stage recoil spring
Please explain what this is
Also theoretically an advanced muzzle brake could make it feel like nothing. Check out the muzzle brake tests for the AR15, one design negated 73 percent of the recoil.

Now fit it into a pistol and make it cost effective. Oh wait, it's a shit idea that would never be viable in a rifle or pistol.
>>
>>33032267
you could. it would just be a deagle sized pistol.
>>
>>33032180
uhm, could this be solved with a barrel threaded in the opposite direction ?
>>
>>33032290
HAHA NOW I'M GOING TO STEAL AND PATENT IT.
>>
>>33032290
It'd tighten itself to the point you couldn't get it off.
>>
>>33032312

Which is why you lock with grooves instead of threads or you manufacture the suppressor within the barrel.
>>
>>33032335
>Suppressor within barrel
Do you know how guns work?

you know what the fuck im talking about jigaboo

I actually don't. Which is why we proofread.
>>
>>33032180

What about QD suppressor mounts that don't use threads? Seems to me like those would work fine
>>
>>33031625

>locking block
>weaker

Not necessarily.
Rotating barrel isn't necessarily weaker, either.
>>
My life's mission is to design a short-stroke gas piston system that pushes a revolver cylinder back and facilitates a rotational camming motion so that we can have a silenced revolver without the Nagant's fucknasty trigger.
Wish me luck boys.
>>
>>33032386
those still thread on. they just use a muzzle device for the QD function.
>>
>>33032267
You do realize that exact comment has been given to literally all new iterations of technology, right?

Let people invent things, we will find an effective use for them later. "Necessity is the mother of invention" is retarded - Necessity leads to the adoption of already invented technology.
>>
>>33032420

No, I can't find a pic atm but the mounting system uses two circular grooves milled into the end of the barrel, and the silencer itself has two spring loaded bars that slide into these grooves to lock it in place.

No threads anywhere.
>>
>>33032404
Fuck you that's my life's mission too
>But my design will be better
>>
>>33032151
Stick anything in the gap the barrel rotates to and it'll lock up nice and tight never to be shot again.
>>
>>33032180

This could be solved with a fucking jam nut what the fuck
>>
>>33032386
You still need a piston to function it. Even if you had a trilug built into the barrel it wouldn't work.

If I recall correctly that gun had a horrible service life with the breach locking mechanism engaged. Like literally less than 300 rounds.

which any half baked engineer could ahve predicted. if you need a supressed handgun, go with a fixed barrel.

What about the rotating bolt short recoil system of the schwarzlose 1898? I imagine it'd be more accurate, and stronger than a tilting barrel. Could use a triangular bolt shape like in the Leader T2 to reduce costs.

>>
>>33032861
You have to tighten it every shot or two if you don't want to risk it blowing up.
>>
>>33031625
gas delayed blowback maybe
gas assisted blow forward?
>>
>>33032649
compare something like that to a modern pistol and it's too large and heavy for practical concealed carry. that makes it a target pistol class and that's shit.
>>
>>33032889
that can be remedied, there are ways to lock a thread that aren't permanent.
>>
>>33032404
or just take the nagant system and mate it to the frame in the fashion of the mateba or webley fosbery
>>
>>33032904
Gas delayed blowback is a very elegant and beautifully simple design IMO, the only problem is that they require cleaning and rather tight tolerances compared to a tilting barrel.

>>33032938
Short recoil revolvers are shit, too complex and expensive. Use gas instead.
