Can anyone recognize what gun is this? It's late 19th century apparently
Well, the guy's hat says France. The horse says cavalry. The size of the rifle then says some sort of carbine. Could be a Berther M1916 or a Lebel 1892, although that fore barrel is mighty delicate for a military rifle so could in theory be something with a custom stock - or be entirely a civilian weapon, of course.

I know it's a frontier policeman from Argentina.
Spencer carbine?
That's good then. Latin American uniforms aren't my best area.
Also I have one more guess for what weapon it is: a Chatellerault M16 Carbine. Not kidding.

Well it looks similar, maybe it's the gun

Remington Rolling Block carbine.
This looks like a reliable source.

Which shows a picture of a weapon very similar.

They're similar, but there are differences.
- the top of the stock looks different, in OP it seems to angle upwards and in the other it rises at first and then goes down.
- the guy is grabbing the rifle just in front of the trigger guard, but there is no magazine there.
- in OP there seems to be a metal ring or something in the hand guard, but there's nothing in the second pic.
- the angle of how the hand guard ends seems different, but it might be the lighting.
- there's no sling swivel in the second pic, but the guy has one at the end of the buttstock.
Hard to say though, these would be minor details and the OP pic is so old it might be just the lighting or something, or individual differences due to a different version or customization. Looks very similar but then again the world has seen tons of carbines like this.

Yup, Patria looks much closer. Comparing just to this pic the swing swivel is missing and the buttstock still looks different to me but that's probably what it is.
