I'm going to go buy a striker fired handgun chambered in .40S&W over lunch today, and have had my eyes on the HK VP40. My budget is about 800 bucks.

Are there any other polymer/stainless striker fired handguns in that price range I should look at before I buy? And should I just cough up the extra hundred bucks for a HK USP in .40?

Sounds like you don't know what you want OP.

I've always wanted a usp, main thing is I want a polymer handgun. I just have a couple hammer fired guns and figured a striker fired would be nice.
>>
>>33024961
Just buy a 10mm, you can still shoot .40 from it.

Get the HK P30. It's the hammer-fired VP.

If you're going to buy something chambered in .40 S&W, get the FNS-40. The long slide model, if you can find it.

By all accounts I've read, it's THE softest recoiling .40 around, more so than even the USP.
>>
>>33024961
GLOCK 32, .357 SIG AUTO.

Accept no substitute.
>>
>>33025021
USP is a polymer handgun you retard
>>
>>33025226
Too bad it's a dead chambering nobody wants anymore.

No, really, too bad. It's cool, I wish it had taken off, but it's about as good an investment as buying a new gun in .45 GAP now.
>>
>>33025232
I don't think you know how to read.
>>
>>33025277
I am able to purchase new ammo as often as I want. It's really not a problem.

What do you mean by "investment?" I didnt' buy a handgun so it would increase in value and become some sort of wealth. I have no plans to re-sell it.

It shoots as soft as 124 grn 9x19 ball ammo.
Sexy lines (the only good looking FNS)
Baltimore PD slay pavement apes with it.

Do you really think people are going to continue making .357 Sig indefinitely when there's no profit in it? Eventually the market is going to dry up, barring some miraculous resurgence of interest in the round.

There were several weapons debuted at SHOT in 2016 which chamber .357SIG. Pic related is just one of several SMGs for instance.
>>
>>33025226
Tell me a bit about your experience with .357 Sig?

Why the 32 over the 31? Would you want or carry .357 Sig in anything other than a Glock?
>>
>>33025558
What an ugly thing.

Also, why would you EVER put the magazine forward of the handle if you're using typical pistol calibers? All that added length for nothing
>>
>>33025566
The other thing I'm interested to know... Why .357 Sig over 10mm?
>>
>>33025498
>>33025558
.357Sig is here to stay, it just most likely won't be getting any cheaper.
>>
>>33025714
To be fair, is ANYTHING getting cheaper?
>>
>>33025566
I like the 32 because it's the same size as the 19, making it slightly easier to carry in concealment.
I have not fired the cartridge from any other brand of handgun.

>>33025672
I have no experience with 10mm.

>inb4 what about muh .40
I find the .40 to be inaccurate and it also has really weird recoil. The .357 has a very quick snap, definitely harder than 9mm but easier to control (for me) than the .40.

I also like that .357SIG is the handgun round that will most often stay on target when traveling through a windshield or similar barrier. It is very flat-shooting and stays on target even at distances that no sensible shooter would use a handgun for.
>>
>>33025566
I do like Sig handguns, so if I wasn't such a huge GLOCKfag I would probably get a Sig.

My initial GLOCK purchase was also at least partially motivated by price. It was the choice between a $750 Sig or a $425 GLOCK (with LE discount, my father is retired PD. He bought the gun, I bought it from him.)

Nice man, I really like those.

I've been wanting to get into the standard frame glocks (all I have now is the 29, which I love dearly)

I'd like a 32 or even 33 because I like .357 sig as a cartridge, and because it seems pretty straightforward to change it to 9mm (just barrel and mags).

Then, with 2 guns, i'd have 9mm and .357sig capability (g32/33 w/ conversion barrel) to go with my 10mm G29 which I already have .40sw and 9x25 dillion conversions for.

2 guns, 5 calibers, not too bad for ~350 bux aftermarket.

Plus the .357sig glocks just have that "special snowflake" vibe to them, in a good way i mean. It's like a glock 40 or a 24 or a 17L, you just don't see them often.
>>
Real talk, what exactly is wrong with the .40 S&W?
>>
>>33028211
It's a very high pressure cartridge, meaning it's theoretically more likely to blow up, and it's kind of half-way between a 9mm and a .45, both of which are very close anyway with modern ammo. It's a, again, theoretically, less safe compromise between two very similar chamberings.

People think it's useless because 10mm exists and the FBI female bitch wrist meme.

It also has -2 capacity vs 9mm in many applications, and people question whether this is worth whatever ballistic advantage .40 has over 9mm.

Personally, I think .40sw has a place because (at least in glock's case) their .40 guns use the smaller, slimmer, more concealable frame vs. the chunky 10mm and .45acp guns.

Not to mention, -2 capacity isn't exactly life or death, and there are some pretty stout factory loads available for .40sw that may give it a ballistic advantage over 9mm.

Ammo is cheaper than 10mm, but slightly more expensive than 9mm, for whatever that's worth to you.

Also, .40 and .357sig are fun as fuck to shoot so they have value even just as a range toy (like most guns out there, of course).

Nothing, it's just not the bandwagon hotness right now.

40S&W is still used by a shitload of police agencies and law enforcement divisions, it has an excellent track record of stopping threats. Excellent barrier penetration, energy and temporary cavity and crush cavity.

There is absolutely nothing unsafe about the 40S&W you non guns fool.

There WAS something unsafe about early gen glocks with chambers that were not fully supported.

The proper way to consider it is so: .45 has +P, 9x19 has +P & +P+

40S&W is always +P

Get the USP and never look back, alternatively look at the p2000sk if you want a carry gun. HK makes best polymer handguns.
>>
>>33028329
I recommend something with a long barrel as it takes better advantage of the 40s proportionally high energy levels and tames the recoil.

40 is an awesome caliber for a HD gun or a truck gun, and if you are a confident, well disciplined and trained shooter it makes an extremely potent carry round.

>>
>>33028290
Good point.
>>
>>33024961
My hypothesis is that some people react so differently to .45ACP is because the human body is much more susceptible to common types of puncture wounds, where the foreign object is traveling more slowly.

While a fast 9mm would not trigger the same biological reaction as a much slower .45.

Any serious study done on this subject relating to puncture wounds?
>>
>>33031453
their the only ones who shoot through glass? even then that doesnt seem like a reason. out of all shots taken by troopers, how many were through glass? IDK that sounds like an odd consideration for a round.
>>
>>33031483
The variable speeds between a +P+ 9x19 and a .45ACP would have no bearing on a humans perception of the crush cavity - IE: the physical part of their body being removed.
>>
>>33031504
I would imagine it holds true through a lot of barriers.

It's really just a quite a bit faster 9mm.
>>
>>33031522
.45 is slow enough to be seen moving through the air with the naked eye downrange though.

Yeah you can watch 45 in flight, I can watch 308 in flight given the right lighting and angle, what's your point? What advantage does this bring to bear?
>>
>>33031717
I figure if it's that slow it might register as a more typical kind of trauma and produce a slightly different physical reaction.

But there seems to be no evidence of this.
>>
>>33031552
Only in the right conditions (angle and lighting). I have also seen even +P in flight. Tells you how weak most handgun cartridges are.
