Is buying milsurp dying off? No one is going to buy plastic military surplus guns in the future right? Will the plastic guns even survive that long?
>>
Plastic kept out of the sun will probably last longer.
>>
Plastic left on a shelf will. But it does not take abuse very well.

Plastic was cost effective so obviously the militaries wanted it far more than quality produced hardware that will last 100 years+ without series degradation, but this could be the point if the tinfoil hatters are remotely correct.
>>
military surplus is going the way of the dino. It used to be militaries and governments would sell off old, outdated arms to the general public or to foreign countries. Now, they either destroy those arms or give them to another nation for their armed forces. Plus, since almost every country uses a select fire weapon, and the ATF ruled "once a machine gun, always a machine gun", it's extremely unlikely we'll see anything besides the rare and expensive parts kit of various guns.

Sidearms, on the other hand, may be something we'll see more of, though even that is unlikely. Governments seem to love giving away arms to poorer countries these days, and by the time that country gets the next generation of hand-me-downs, they've destroyed the guns they were given

Select from safe to semi, just select fired. Why do you faggots continue to misuse "select fire" for full auto?
>>
>>33018454
It doesn't matter. It's going to be destroyed rather than sold to civilians.
>>
>>33018770
Safe and fire is not select fire. Select fire is selecting different firing modes, safe is not a firing mode
>>
The real question is are any of them worth saving?
>>
>>33018770

stop being obtuse.
>>
>>33018770
Select fire means you can select from more than one fire mode, such as between semi and burst, semi and auto, semi burst and auto, etc

Faggot.
>>
We don't really know how the plastic guns will hold up. They are still relatively new.
>>
>>33020027
>Spoilers: They wont.

They dont even hold up in a hot day in a car, why would they be expected to last any period of time? Temperature variances and repeated shock will turn any polymer brittle.
>>
>>33018454

Going by Ecoterrorists The plastic parts of the Guns will last long after the metal has rusted away.
>>
>>33020553
No, it won't.

Different materials have different properties. Some plastics have a problem with heating and cooling cycles. Most used in guns don't, but often degrade and become more brittle with exposure to UV light.

Synthetic materials used in firearms isn't maintenance free but last quite a while if treated well, and can be replaced in the event it fails.

The real reason military surplus isn't available anymore is purely legal, and it's the same reason you can't buy old M14's.
>>
Pretty much every standard service rifle after WWII was either burst or full auto, so it's not like there's ever going to be new milsurp that doesn't come from kits made into semi auto.
>>
>>33020637
Kept in a dark place, yeah. The steel on an M16 is a hell of a lot more vulnerable to corrosion then the plastic.
>>
>>33018454
Things are different now. Milsurp had a great run.

>during WWII, gazillions of Mausers, Garands, Mosins, Enfields, etc were made.
>War ends with US and USSR as main powers.
>Rather than get caught with no arms like last time, rifles placed into storage.
>Some arms given to client countries, but reserves kept.
>When become obsolete, sold off as surplus - but USSR weapons aren't because of Cold War embargoes/lack of relations.
>Cold War ends, USSR finally stuff hits market.
>Postwar AK, M16 etc. is full auto - "once a machine gun, always a machine gun" = we can't import. So kits come in. Semi auto are not surplus.
>barrel ban = even less imported.

Also, ban on Chinese guns - the other large producer other than Russia. The wars of the 90's in Africa and Yugoslavia also ate up lots of surplus AK47's and SKSes.
>>
>>33020668
>but last quite a while if treated well

But we're comparing it to steel. If you consider 1 or 2 hundred years later, the results aren't going to be the same.

But yeah you are right about the politics and laws being a major factor.
>>
>>33020553
doesn't effect wood or leather too much. So no. not all polymers will degrade with heat.
>>
we just need a good old war. we are long overdue for one.
