Because its a .22 and that means its a jam-o-matic, not because a .22 cant function exceptionally well but because it takes alot of care and attention to the gun to make it work right (eg, the hassles with the PMR-30).

They should've chambered it in something more common like 9x19 or any other mega cheap pistol ammo.

If they wanted to make it pussy powered they could have made it .25acp or .32auto, though there's no telling yet if the gun is good enough to chamber rounds reliably period.

What is the cheapest ammo these days besides .22LR?

Get one! It isn't like $330 is alot of money. It's a fun gun to get and shoot and bring friends to shoot with. You can tell them the history of the model, how its being used in Syria, and how Hill and Mac are making some fucked up version that I somehow suspect will actually turn out to be pretty awesome.

may be a great concept on paper, but having a zink / potmetal mp40 that has no recoil and no fun switch just feels bad
especially if you already had the pleasure to handle a real MP40
