I wouldn't try and do it precisely like that, but action is generally faster than reaction, and doing something may be safer than doing nothing.

Based off of airsoft force on force drills, I can draw and fire faster than I can react to a draw.

I can probably also start to wrestle a gun away before I could react to an attack by some one within arms reach. Wouldn't leave my body in front of the muzzle though.
