really, do not hit it.
hit it hard with a blunt object.
dont
do that.
dont
HIT it with a shovel
>>
>>32966453
I'd say it's probably from a 15cmK16. You might want to rinse some water over it so you could actually see something of the shell and not just a big piece of dirt

The thing that bugs me about the shell it the flat nose. I am not familiar with that. They usually have either large fuzes or a pointy end (internal fuze). Could it me an american fuze? I haven't ever seen them.

>>32966503
to be fair, a shell that old probably has the explosive so deteriorated the smallest impact or spark can make it explode, so if you keep fussing around it, it will blow on your face anyway.
BUT would be highly irresponsible to hit it with a shovel anyway.
also,
consider calling the army or the cops, you may end needing an EOD team.
god, i hope that is not a hole on your backyard, it would suck big time
>>
>>32966453
>>32966503

It's not 16cm, it's 15cm. Wash the dust off.

There are several guns it could have been fired by.

15 cm Kanone 16
15 cm L/40 Feldkanone i.R.
15 cm sFH 02
15 cm sFH 13

See wikipedia.

calm your tits, I got this.

So i used a brush to remove some dirt from the pointy end, but it's too rusty, can't see shit. Just looks like a perfectly flat surface. Would scraping the rust off with a shovel do any harm?

Also, wtf is that smell man.
>>
>>32966548
For serious, though, it's something of a crime to go to somewhere near Ypres without going to In Der Vrede.

My yearly Eurotrip is still five months away and I can already taste it.

ok, all DEATH FLAGS have been set.
if you are lucky, its is a inert training round.
if you live in Europe, it may not be the case.
bad, chemical smell can mean the chemicals are deteriorated, so it can explode at any moment for any reason, really.
or it can be a chemical warfare shell, what would be fair worse, cause you been touching it without gloves.
also, if you really knew what to do with a artillery shell you wont be taking selfies few inches away from it!
>>
>>32966565
Still. If your (16cm) measurement is accurate, it isn't a German shell, but a britbong 6-incher shot from one of these: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BL_6-inch_26_cwt_howitzer, which is pretty much the same thing.

EODfag
The external portion of a nose-fuze will often break off on impact as they were commonly just brass, or corrode away for some later alloy fuze bodies.
>the rear end of the fuze - the magazine/booster the detonator and internals will still be inside the fuze well - so, as before:
Don't fuck with it.
Call your local cops who'll send EOD.

They burst, with the gas either lingering in the air or splattering in liquid form only to evaporate later depending on the gas and local climate.

>The Germans, for example, used 5.9-inch (150 mm) artillery shells ("five-nines"). Gas shells were independent of the wind and increased the effective range of gas, making anywhere within reach of the guns vulnerable. Gas shells could be delivered without warning, especially the clear, nearly odorless phosgene — there are numerous accounts of gas shells, landing with a "plop" rather than exploding, being initially dismissed as dud HE or shrapnel shells, giving the gas time to work before the soldiers were alerted and took precautions.
>In the First Battle of Ypres (19 October to 22 November 1914), the Allies captured the town from the Germans. The Germans had used tear gas at the Battle of Bolimov on 3 January 1915. Their use of poison gas for the first time on 22 April 1915 marked the beginning of the Second Battle of Ypres, which continued until 25 May 1915. They captured high ground east of the town. The first gas attack occurred against Canadian, British, and French soldiers, including both metropolitan French soldiers as well as Senegalese and Algerian tirailleurs (light infantry) from French Africa. The gas used was chlorine. Mustard gas, also called Yperite from the name of this town, was also used for the first time near Ypres, in the autumn of 1917
>By the end of the battle the Ypres salient was compressed, with Ypres closer to the line. The city, bombarded by artillery fire, was demolished. Although poison gas had been used on the Eastern Front, it surprised the Allies and about 7,000 gas casualties were transported in field ambulances and treated in casualty clearing stations. In May and June, 350 British deaths were recorded from gas poisoning. Both sides developed gas weapons and counter-measures, which changed the nature of gas warfare

Really makes you realize just how ridiculously heavy arty use was in WWI when you consider how many shells are still being found from WWI vs WWII.

RIP OP, you dun goofed for the last time.
It would probably be a good idea to use a trip when you make a thread like this so you can easily prove you are not a corpse by simply posting again at all.

Wouldn't be surprised if they had a filter they could apply as well preventing certain edits from even showing to begin with.

Irritating thing is they'll rapidly axe easily verified correct edits as well.

Geographically, speaking, The UK is just a touch larger than Oregon which is only the 9th largest state.

Thus for an American, in terms of covered area, a "UK police department" would be a perfectly reasonable assumption as every state has a state police force.
>>
>>32971572
He could have not been retarded in the first place. Or made the assumption of the Metropolitan Police seeing as it is the most statistically probable, it being the largest police force with jurisdiction over 7/68+ million citizens. Or Scotland Yard, New Scotland Yard, GCHQ, MI5, MI6, anything sounding remotely like an authority, but nope, he had to go full retard.

Geographically speaking, the UK is split up into counties and boroughs, and police forces are assigned as such. Therefore it does not equate that, just because Oregon has a similar landmass, that jurisdiction and association of police forces be organised similarly. Thats like saying the Indian Ocean isnt an ocean because it isnt equivalent size to the Atlantic or Pacific ocean, therefore a completely arbitrary assignment.

That guy made a retarded joke. I called him on the retarded joke. Some cunt tried to jump in and back him up, trying to be smart. I countered his argument, proving the original dude was still retarded.

I dont give a fuck either way to be honest, just find it funny how stupid some people can be. If youre gunna get that butthurt over getting called out over a stupid joke, dont make the stupid joke, then you wont get butthurt.
>>
>>32971760
Isn't it open carry?

So he had an open carry permit, he got threatened, he responded to that threat, then got convicted for it haha

What's the point of open carry?
>>
>>32971808
You don't draw your weapon in a situation that you don't intend to fire in. Drawing a gun without intent to kill what is in front of you is use of a deadly weapon for something other than self defense.
>>
>>32971823
But he was about to get mobbed by niggers, do you wait until you're being physically killed by the niggers before you pull out your gun?

Like wait to be stabbed 3 or 4 times, then properly assume you're about to die, then you can pull it?
>>
>>32971823
I know legally it's not good practice, but still If I were on a jury, I would have no issue with someone who drew a gun to attempt to defuse the situation, it the mere presence of a gun stops the altercation, it's better than having to have someone get shot.
>>
>>32969239

>like wait to be stabbed.
Look, I hate lawyers and I especially hate prosecutors who have a vendetta against armed americans but it goes like this.
>"Why did you brandish a deadly weapon?"
>"If your life was in danger, why didn't you fire at your attacker?"
>"If you had time to threaten, then your life wasn't in danger, and in that case, you brandished a deadly weapon for a reason other than self defense."
The same, abet twisted, logic applies to warning shots. But it boils down to this, if your gun leaves its holster you are arguably in a better position if you kill the attacker than if you let them retreat.

>>32971854
That being said, I too would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6, as the saying goes.

>If I drink too much before coming out into the fields I will freeze my fingers off. Alcohol restricts blood vessels.
That's not true, alcohol dilates blood vessels. That's why drunks get flush. If you're drunk you'll have more bloodflow through your extremities and near the surface of your skin.

For this reason, alcohol will delay the onset of frostbite at the cost of dramatically hastening hypothermia.
