When will we reach peak brass?

Isn't brass a (relatively) rare metal? I'm worried that the supply will eventually run out.
>>
>>32964034
Brass is just copper/zinc alloy. Zinc is extremely common and cheap. Copper isn't quite as cheap, but there is no shortage of it.
>>
>>32964034

Brass is an alloy.
>>
>>32964054
and it recycles, you don't burn it for fuel.
>>
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peak_copper

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc.

Looks like slavshit might win after all, it can run steel case all day.
>>
>>32964061
Alright

When will we reach peak copper?
>>
>>32964077
Right before we make copper obsolete for mass power transmission
>>
we can get every resource we need with space mining. we just need to shed the deadweight populations that are holding back space programs.
>>
>>32964102
>space mining

meme, that's too expensive
>>
>>32964139
Might be viable for platinum and other noble metals if SpaceX keeps driving down orbit costs and robots can handle basic tasks.
>>
>>32964102
oy vey
>>
>>32964102
looking at you india...
>>
>>32964139
Not if the output is greater than the input
>>
What other alloys are better than brass seeing that we can mine stuff from space.
>>
>>32964102
Except for phosporus.

Only found on Earth, and possible Phobos.
>>
>>32964186
Good luck getting to that point
>>
>>32964238
how the fuck do we know we cant find phosphorous anywhere else but earth when we havent even been to all of the planets
>>
>>32964034
i think the bigger concern is what happens when we run out of black people.
>>
>>32964070
>he doesn't even use his spent casings as charcoal for a cookout after a day at the range
>>
>>32964291
It would be impossible for something like that to happen.
>>
>>32964238
http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2013Sci...342.1346K
>>
>>32964281
What would make it profitable is when the resources become so scarce on earth and prices skyrocket it becomes profitable to mine out the moon and other planets
>>
>>32964238

>phosphorus
>a basic element

this shit is pretty common everywhere senpai. just go to the moon or mars and start digging.
>>
>>32964099
If I recall correctly, many power lines are actually thick stranded aluminum wires for cost and weight reasons.
>>
>>32964416
You'd be correct. Aluminum is a fantastic conductor, nearly as good as Copper.
>>
Antarctica still has a wealth of minerals underneath its ice. I'll be a very long time before we reach peak resources once we figure out how to drill through the ice.
>>
>>32964425

aluminum is a better conductor than copper, by mass. the problem is that it is worse at nearly every other basic property of metal.
>>
>>32964416
That is right, it also resists corrosion well.
>>
>>32964442
>going to antartica

enjoy your ufos
>>
>>32964154
SpaceX isn't going to do shit.
>>
>>32964468
Which would be why power lines all have a core of high tensile steel.
>>
>>32964468
Not really. Light weight, high ductility, corrosion resistance, heat treatable and weldable (depending on the alloy). It's used more and more industrially for a reason.
>>
>>32964484
I don't know anon, they have already accomplished some highly impressive shit. They will almost certainly be the first commercial company to send people into orbit.
>>
>>32964563
They've proven a rocket, but not their business model. Pretty much the same situation as Tesla. They've made a car, but it definitely remains to be seen if their car company will be staying with us.
>>
>>32964034
>Not hoarding brass

I've got a tub full in the garage, it'll be worth your daughter when SHTF!
>>
Polymer casings are already a thing, though we'll have to wait until a round comes out using exclusively polymer casings before it really takes off, I think.
>>
>>32964583
Tesla is all about the car though, that's why they let anyone use their patents
>>
>>32964600
but anon what would you want someone's daughter for during SHTF?
>>
>>32964656
What is a car without a company that makes it?
>>
>>32965038
meant for >>32964640
>>
>>32964618

space mining is more practical than polymer casings.
>>
Recycling probably will become profitable before space mining
>>
>>32964583
>They've proven a rocket, but not their business model.

Maybe not for launching people, but their business model is to get people to pay them to launch satellites on their rockets. Same as everyone else who launches rockets for money. Also to get the government to contract out launching astronauts and supplies to the ISS to them.

It's hardly some web start-up where the plan is
>get hype
>get a big userbase
>????
>Get bought for billions of dollars by some tech giant, take the money, and run before it becomes evident that there's no way to effectively monetize the service without driving off the userbase.

People pay like 60 million dollars per flight from them, and they're booked out to 2021 at those prices. Even if they can't bring the costs down like they're claiming, they're at least running a decently successful conventional rocket company already.
>>
>>32964034
guiz when we reach peak water? shit nigga i drink water daily and it just disapears. i'ma stop drinking water to save the human race.
>>
>>32964497
>>32964425
>>32964468
Aluminum is a fine conductor, but the problem is that it corrodes far too easily when a current is passed through it. That's why copper reigns supreme.
>>
>>32964238
>Except for phosporus.
>Only found on Earth, and possible Phobos.

You're an idiot of stellar proportions.
>>
"peak" anything except peak oil is an absolutely meaningless thing to waste timing discussing. peak oil is far more severe than the ruling elite wants us to believe. they don't want us to be ready for it, but it's coming in our lifetimes. when there's no petroleum to fuel the trucks bringing food to cities, things will go downhill FAST.

basically who cares when the copper/lead/rare earths are gone or too expensive, by the time that happens society will be crippled by the lack of oil
>>
doesn't this shit belong in...
oh idk..
/sci/?
>>
>>32966390
you belong in a gay porn.
faggot
>>
>>32966390
>>32966392
And this is why I love /k/...
>>
>>32966377
The invisible hand of the free market will take care of that. Long before there is no oil, prices will raise high enough alternatives will be used, and then it would be a moot point. Either in the form of alternative technologies, or in synthetic gasoline production. The world would change, sure, but it would not be the end of the world as we know it.
>>
Cuz lightspectrum analysis, jesus anon cant you into astrophysics
>>
>>32964291
Worldpeace... In africa...
>>
>>32964349
Not found in any quantity that you could mine unfortunately
>>
>>32964139
For now.
