In the furthest reaches of time and space, it is my hope that a 1911 chambered in .45ACP will be used to put a hole in some alien's face. And John Moses Browning, wherever he is, will crack a smile.

I really don't know. Its a Turnbull restoration. I heard many Colts of that era had that type of finish but it was very delicate and almost never survived to the modern era.

1911 was the American service pistol issued in droves to officers, commandos, airborne, cool people in general, and heavily featured in propaganda. Literally every person had seen one in the hands of a respected authority figure. Most men owned at least one and thousands upon thousands were on the market since anyone with tooling was supporting the war effort. There isn't a big enough interest in fire arms to give this generation a 1911 without a draft and a victory that changes the world stage. If it happens plastic fantastic guns with few parts and high reliability will win over comfort, accuracy, and style. The 1911 may well return as this generation's defining pistol after the war due to disgust with notaglocks and all the cool kids having sexy pistols.

the Glock has the natural aiming grip angle that revolvers had too for the most part before the 1911 changed that and cemented it. there are even meme macros on k about this. weirdly, people I let shoot my Luger love it's grip angle that is even somewhat more aggressive that the Glocks while at the same time berating the Glock for it. It betrayes their ignorant judgment and opinion about the gun that is based on memes and fuddlore.

Glocks are kind of like the Smith and Wesson model 10 was in the 70s. It's widely used by law enforcement and civillians for a reason: it's reliable, durable and well designed, and easy as fuck to use, but it's not particularly comfortable to shoot and there have been many improvements on it since it's inception

and yet problems plagued it at the beginning, they're all worn out in recent years, 9mm ball never made a good impression on the troops, pistols are now issued only to officers and rear echelon instead of a sidearm for every soldier, and the soldiers who used them didn't keep them upon returning from the war.

it didn't leave near as great an impression on those who used it, and now that it's been replaced it will be regarded just like every other outdated pistol of that time.

I think he meant a handgun currently used that is "so iconic and legendary that people still carry and buy them, military or not, even 105 years later".

Tbh I don't see any modern production handgun still being used in 2116. At least certainly not an M9 or a Sig P320. The M9 is stylish but too short lived and not as well received. The Sig P320 is a basic bitch brick like most new handguns we see these days.

Yes, and all of those made basic improvements Glock still refuses to implements.

Steel sights, good triggers, finishes that don't rust,
no brass-to-face ejection, and now frame swapping.

These are features you can get out of a Glock, if you decide to buy one and proceed to replace the parts entirely at twice the cost than buying another pistol from the start.

The only advantage I've seen left with Glock is in their size to capacity ratio, in that the G19 is the still the smallest 15 round 9mm on the market.
