It's real, doesn't work like it does in Phantom Pain though. Rather, it doesn't work as quickly, takes, I think 15-30 minutes for the balloon to inflate.

Golden Tiger Stripe isn't quite Desert Tiger Stripe. It's more greenish than Desert. The redish one in MGSV is Golden Tiger Stripe that has been dyed with a reddish hue to blend in with the red soil in Africa. Actual Gold Tiger Stripe is the default Tiger Stripe camo in MGSV.
British Soldiers station in Sangin had to do something similar because they were primarily issued desert uniforms, but the part of Afghanistan they were operating in was very lush and green. They turned out kinda Turquoise but it was still an improvement over the yellowish tan of their desert uniforms. Pic related
