A lot of them seem kind of shitty.
The M&P-15/22 seems like it can be reasonably fun, but I hear it also has some problems.

The GSG line of .22 caliber clones seem like they'd be reasonably fun, and at least their AK actually looks like an AK proper, rather than the horrendous Mossberg BlazeIt, and their MP5 clones seem like they'd be fun plinkers (particularly the pistol ones). I think it helps that they aim to get the same outline and profile, even modeling the magazines to look the part (even if just passingly).

Oh yeah, and they also have a Sturmgewehr copy, which if anything is just kind of nice for the fact that there isn't a lot of other good options for a collector to have anything like a Sturmgewehr, the real ones are NFA items and goes for a couple of thousand (but not AS expensive as you'd expect from a transferable assault rifle), and even the upcoming HMG one will be $$$$ (while not even being 100% authentic).
There's also the old PTR44 copies, which I heard were junk, something like "the manufacturer recommends you don't shoot it too much", and I don't need to tell you that's a big warning sign.

Anyway, at least the Sturmgewehr one seem to function reasonably, even if it's mostly a novelty.
>>
I think they're dumb, but to each their own.
>>
>>32937703
I agree theyre mostly fun plinkers. My cousin loves his MP5 clone, and I did too so I ordered one. I think the STG clone will be next for me.
>>
>>32937703
>>32937719

And yeah it is a good way especially for collectors to atleast have something similar to what they want. Being a poorfag wehraboo college student I'll sure as shit not end up with a real STG anytime soon.

Didn't stop me from buying a mauser/luger/p38 but hey thats a different story.

Mausers and P38s aren't TOO expensive, but if you're willing to settle for a Yugo or Czech Mauser, and a Cold War P1 or P4, it can be cheaper, not quite the genuine article, but pretty close.

A Luger will probably run at least $700 for a decent shooter (probably mixed parts).
>>
>>32937844
my mauser is german, dated 1937 and its a genuine p38 not a p1

all guns are matching parts

i guess i got lucky
>>
>>32937844
This

I picked up a Turkroach mauser with a pristine bore for 150 just before the election. It's basically a gewehr 98 with a kar 98k rear sight with is better than the roller coaster sights

I own a .22lr Chiappa upper AR15.

I made it for cheap thinking I would sell it, but I fire it more than my normal .223. I even put a better trigger on it. I also had a lot of fun with a 1911 .22lr at the range a few times.

I have had no problems with the plastic upper or airsoft red dot. Rifle has kept zero for thousands of subsonic and high velocity rounds. The steel suppressor is 2.5" forward of the barrel and weighs 6 ounces. It cuts the noise to BB gun levels.

>ATF plz go
>In my country .22lr is cheap, common, and suppressors are legal.
>>
>>32937972
Roach Mausers aren't really too bad desu, the Turks liked to hotrod the shit out of their 7.92mm so you know the gun can take a lot of fuck.
>>
>>32937609
.22 quick conversion kits for good centerfires are cool for extending your day at the range, practicing fundamentals, training kids and breaking in trigger mechanisms.

Otherwise, buy a good .22 that is meant to be a .22, or save for the real thing.
>>
>>32938138
I load mine hot and the ol' kraut one eats it right up. The new production 7.92 is really weak, its disappointing.

I had the GSG-5 (MP5 clone). Their guns are novelties but they're fun to shoot. I actually kind of regret selling mine.
>>
>>32937609
>let's make a shitty little .22 and then encase the whole thing in a toy AK

Pants on head retarded

That said I have a .22 1911 that is pretty nice, though I don't think that is really what OP is talking about.
>>
>>32937703
>M&P-22

I borrowed my buddy's for a range day and wasn't impressed. Maybe it's just the factory mags, but I was having double-feeds all day long.

In my experience no .22 rifle works as reliably as the 10/22, but a .22 AR is cool because the manual of arms is basically the same as a real one, and it's stupid-easy to mount an optic. Great for teaching proper use before moving on to the real thing.
>>
>>32938334
Its better to just buy a .22 BCG with mag for your ar and your good to go
>>
>>32938138
>tfw really want a turk mauser but literally cannot find one anywhere besides one at the gunshow that was $400
>>
I own a GSG522

basically an MP5 .22 clone
pretty dank, its a .22 with tactical german looks
worth it for the lols
also that HK slap, thats sexy
cause im not gonna be able to afford a real mp5 anytime soon
>>
>>32937609
They're pretty neat. I have a G36 clone and a Uzi clone from Walther.
>>
>>32941554
Well it'd be pretty hard to fuck up an Uzi clone in .22LR, it's already a blowback action in a box-shaped receiver, plenty of room to work with and the dimensions are a rectangle.

I have GSG STG-44 and can confirm it's awesomeness. Got it for about $330 new with the wood crate. Thing is satisfyingly heavy, with great sights, trigger, and reliability. Recommended!
>>
I have a gsg ak22 and its a piece of shit

the extractor is crap, and a FTF turns into a FTE.

there's at least a dozen steps to disassembling it enough to take the bolt out and there's lots of little screws to worry about.

it shoots well and the wood is nice, its just not worth the hassle.

my dad was smart and got an S&W M&P 15-22 and it shoots great and comes apart as easily as a real ar15.
>>
>>32941912
I have oneof the Walther Uzis and it feeds "tactical" .22's (Fed. Automatch, Norma Tac .22 and Winchester M22) wonderfully. Been using it as an understudy for my Uzi SBR.
>>
Cz 455/452 or a ruger 10/22. That's pretty much the only options I'd consider.

The m&p15-22 was my first gun. A lot of fun to start with, and I'd rather have two separate guns than a 223 conversion kit. I mean it's got the fun of being able to have rails and a 25 round mag and the cheapness of a 22.

Please oh based one, where could I find a luger that cheap?
>>
>>32942402
Does anyone make a wood handguard for these? I've always felt that the one thing the Sturmgewehr was really lacking was a proper handguard made out of wood or plastic (really, just anything to give you a better grip and to protect your hands when the barrel and aluminum shroud starts getting hot).

I wonder if German soldiers (or Libyan resistence fighters) ever wrapped shit around the fore-end for that purpose.

A mostly mixed parts refurb, and I said "at the least", some people don't know the actual value of guns they are selling (perhaps they got something in a trade, or are looking to just get rid of something they inherited and feel they don't need/want). It's why on odd occasions you can find a Desert Eagle for like $400, which is like a third or fourth of what it's actually worth.

If you're willing to settle for a Luger in 7.65mm Parabellum, price can often be lower because most people want their Luger to be in 9mm. You probably can't shoot it for as cheap, but most people don't shoot their Luger every day.

Something you'll probably want to do is to get yourself a pair of MecGar magazines for it too, because a lot of the old military and commercial magazines are just so worn. Of course, a lot of Luger pistols have worn out springs in general (remember, this shit dates back like 100 years), so even if you score a no parts matching Luger in 7.65mm with an acceptable finish/refurb, you could end up having to do some work on them, springs, particularly unusual ones like for the Luger, can be pricy.

>>32942971
Sometimes people want a gun that's just fun, or they want a gun that isn't perhaps so common, or otherwise expensive, maybe they live in a place with bullshit laws.

Sure a 10/22 is more practical, but a .22LR rifle that looks like an MP5, Uzi or Stg44 can do the same basic things while looking like a really cool gun from a movie or videogame.
>>
>>32938334
This. It is a great teaching tool for new shooters and pretty inexpensive for range day. Definitely not an amazing firearm but it's fun and has its uses.

You could probably buy some cheap-ass piece of shit IO or RAS47, gut it, then fit a blowback action in there, along with a .22LR conversion sleeve (or outright rebarrel it, if you want to go through that effort), then make or fit some .22LR high capacity magazines inside the shape of an AK or AK74 mag.

If you take out the BCG that removes the bolt and piston so that takes out some weight, so the gun would be a little bit lighter, and the ammo and mags will weight a lot less, but it'd still be hefty and real metal, and it doesn't matter if IO or Century did a shitty job because it's not in 7.62x39mm, it's in .22LR and it'll never explode or break.

Mind you, this isn't a project you do over a weekend.
