i think the rule of thumb is you shouldnt go shorter than 10.5" for 5.56

as other people are saying, 10.5 is a good idea, and it's easier to get the gas system working. The two biggest issues that an SBR will have for you are a properly gasses system and a properly weighted bolt. Accuracy is not deteriorated significantly until you get into barrels below 7.5, and to be fair you shouldn't expect much out of such a short barrel when compared to a rifle length barrel. That being said, I went for an 8 and had to get an adjustable gas block to cycle it properly, along with having to use an M16 full auto bolt so that my gun doesn't fuck it's own shit up. As you can imagine, these things aren't going to be great past 300 yards, but my SBR is accurate enough to justify a red dot magnifier that helps me touch targets at 200 yards.

11.5'' is the best for 5.56 SBRs. You have 40% more dwell time than a 10.3'' barrel and you only give up an inch. Accuracy is a wash but with 10.3-11.5 you can hit targets 500 yards out. Besides all this is moot once you get your stamp back because you can have as many fucking uppers and calibers as you want on that lower.

What are the steps in buying a SBR? Do you just buy the gun normally then apply for a stamp once delivered and it just sits at your FFL until it's out of jail? I really want to get a DDMK18 but at the same time I want to sit back and see what happens to gun legislation this year.
