What's the best entry level? I only have a pistol now and

M&P 15 sport 2, they can be had for under $600 last time I checked and they are fantastic rifles, accurate and reliable.

S&W M&P Sport II will be more than adequate for simple needs. For a complete rifle, its hard to beat. You can scrounge a similar rifle together from parts a little cheaper, but S&W has one ready to go if you don't want to shop around or aren't handy enough to put it together yourself.

Build a cheap short rifle from PSA. They have a 'marauder' upper they keep haucking for 200 bucks. 100 bolt and CH, 150 complete lower, 450 for a short, somewhat illegal rifle.

I built a PSA rifle for just over 500 and I love it. I'm an absolute garbage marksman but I can shoot a silver dollar sized grouping at 25 yards with irons (unfortunately I can't find an outdoor range near my house) which for practical purposes is far more accurate than anything I've ever owned. It's so accurate it's almost boring to shoot. I point, and the bullets go where I tell them to.

I have an Aero complete, and from what I understand, it has a better barrel than the Smith or the Ruger. I've put over 2,000 rounds of Wolf steel through it with not a single issue. All in all, I'm very happy with it.

PSA rifles are the best cheap ARs out there. I have 4. They have never given me trouble and have always been accurate. I put close to three thousand rounds through my first one before it actually needed a cleaning. Still worked but was a bit stiff on the first pull of the charging handle.
