Why is the STG-44 so rare?
Nearly half a million were produced, what happened to them?
>pure unobtanium ;_;
smashed or sent to the middle east.
Shipped off to Africa to arm communist tribals.
By design they were not supposed to last

by design or because of german manufacturing capabilities by that time in the war.
>>32899010
it isn't a very durable weapon and some of the parts have really short service life.
>>32899010
as far as I remember after a few thousand rounds the two halves of the stampings can get out of spec and cause issues
they were aware of this and expected to just replace these rifles when these happened.

This.
Pretty much the entire design is based around the majority of the gun being low quality steel stampings with the barrel and trunion being made of better quality steel. Smart design if you expect to lose a lot of them in attrition or are having shortages of raw materials, but not a durable one.
germany was disarmed
stg 44s were cut in half by allies or sold to satellites by soviets
some were welded back together and sold to reenactors before they started making replicas
>>32898956
Ended up in commie armories and then sold or given all kinds of commie-sponsored 3rd worlders and sandniggers.
Some of them became remote controlled sentry guns.

It is sad that StG's are almost non-existent in new footage from Syrian civil war, in early days those were pretty common.
Probably a lot to do with this stuff here >>32899111 and here >>32899075.
>>32899524
the problem IIRC is finding new ammo stockpiles of 8mm Mauser which is rarer than facts being used by the MSM...
>>32899524
Well the other thing is that the STG offers no real advantages over the AK-47/Type-56, which is cheaper and has more readily available ammo.
>>32899595
You are aware that Prvi Partizan makes 8mm Kurz, right?
>>32899611
rebel armies arent exactly in the business of buying ammo at civvie prices
>>32899618
Ammunition companies can make even "rare" ammunition at quite cheap prices to armies and rebels if political reality allows 'em to do that.
>>32899618
I wouldn't underestimate the availability of ammunition in these countries and the wit these rebels have. Even the Pakis convert 7.62x39 ammo to 8x33mm.
>>32899618
no they're in the business of obtaining it from funding by first world countries like the US
I know Yugoslavia got a bunch after ww2 that they used for their paratroopers up to 1983. When they were withdrawn they were likely sold/donated to Libya and are the ones that were discovered in a container there in 2013.
>>32898956
Half a million is still not a million.
There are a ton of them in the US on the registry.
They just werent imported en masse for sale on the civilian market. However if you want one they are not hard to find.
>>32899595
It doesnt fire 8mm Mauser it fires 7.9mm Kurz
You remember wrong
>>32899611
Yeah, but they don't ship to Syria.
>>32898956
>under half a million
>a lot
3/4 of a century is a long time for a gun with that few extant copies in the first place.
The Soviets alone made 37,000,000 Mosins.
There were 15,000,000 SKSs produced, conservatively.
There are over 6,000,000 Garands out there.
OTOH Only 1/2 million K31s were made and those aren't rare at all, but there are a LOT of factors as to why you can get those but not stg44s.
Still though the point stands. 1/2 a million guns produced over 70 years ago isnt a lot.
>>32898956
Iugoslavia hoarded them like there was no tomorrow. The URSS also confiscated a fuck-ton of them and handed them as a stop-gap solution for soviet satellites that still didn't have the industrial base to manufacture their own AKs.
