Hey OP. It is possible to make french 7.5mm rimless from plain old 308. In fact you just have to reshape the brass a little. You can re-use the powder and the bullet.

Also you have to keep in mind, that the MAS was the last large-scale adopted bolt action service rifle while the Mauser was at the time an 38 year old design.

I dont wanna shittalk Mausers but the MAS can compete with them just because its nearly 40 years younger and has several things that the Mauser doesnt have.
