Whatever happened to water-cooled machineguns? Should we revive them for suppressing antifa riots?
>>
Mobility over long ranges became more important and having air cooled weaponry meant that you could carry more ammunition with smaller, more maneuverable teams.

The other big thing was the quick change barrel. The invention of this meant that the advantages water cooling had no longer applied when the barrel could be changed quickly and easily by the gunner.
>>
>>32892972
the water jacket was never actually necessary, but engineering methods were too ad hoc/back of the envelope back then to know that for sure.
>>
>>32892972
Weight and the logistics that go with them. You need a man to carry the gun, one to carry the bipod/tripod, and one or two to carry the water and ammo. If you cant find a good source of water to keep them cool they lose their effectiveness.
>>
>>32893239
Confirmed for knowing nothing on the topic
>>
as other has said before, they are too cumbersome and heavy. still, some of them like the vickers, were great and didn't jammed as often as other mg.
>>
>>32893416
confirmed for low energy beta cuck
>>
>>32892972
The MG 42 would be a better choice.
>>
>>32892972
There was a story of a maxim gun during I believe was the battle of Ypers in WWI that fired almost continually for seven days and nights.

Try that with air cooled, aight?

BTW I was responding to a /pol/ thread in terms of war strategy. If mods object, please delete thread, but the question was asked here. I've no desire to ruffle the wrong feathers.
>>
>>32894085
That was a British test after they dropped the vickers from service.
>>
>>32894354
Keep giving Milo a budget and platform seems to work fine. Some reason he's extra good at pissing them off. And added bonus he sucks BBC so you don't have to.

Syria?

Quick Question /k/

As long as you have an endless supply of water, you could fire off a water cooled machine gun at almost any RPM without risk of barrel drop or heat damage yes?
>>
>>32894675
I think Ian said that some guys in the British army once did exactly that for two weeks straight with a Vickers gun in .303 Brit.

They must have been very bored.
>>
>>32894675
Theoretically if they had a rpm high enough not even water could could cool them fast enough. To to mention the water supply would eventually get too hot itself. I know the vickers was about about 500'rpm. Probably could stay cooled with a few guys refreshing the water periodically forever. Only issue is wear on the barrel and parts.

the overall usefullness of them was supplanted by quich change barrels and non static defensive fighting, if somehow we ended up back in trench warfare than they would certainly have a place again but there is really no currently forseeable event in which there would be a need for them. and as far as antifa riots those faggots will disappear as soon as the first shots are fired so something like an mg42 with a high volume of fire would be best, you would want maximum fire downrange in the shortest time possible antifa are only brave when fighting unarmed civilians if they actually encountered equal or greater force directed against them they would crumble
>>
>>32894407
>you were born decades too late
>all the cool guns were sent to the 3rd world to get bubba'd by some mudbrick sand creature
>>
>>32894782

Water-cooling used in Maxim, Vickers etc was/is a cycled system - water boils inside water jacket and turns into steam -> Steam gets guided through water tube into separate container where it cools down and turns into water -> empty the container into water jacket periodically. There is obviously some wastage, so when needed more water is added from a can that is included to machinegun's equipment kit.
>>
>>32892972
they were replaced by things like mortars in British doctrine

nothing can put out sustained fire like one, but they were really stationary and suck for mobile combat
>>
>>32894782

Some rates of fire:
- British Vickers Mk I: 450 - 500 rounds/min
- German Maxim MG 08: 300 - 450 rounds/min
- Russian Maxim M1910: 500 - 600 rounds/min

fuck off fascist. We'll be busy making racists afraid again. The general public are becoming aware of the state's use in preventing revolution, supporting capitalists and giving platforms for fascism.

Some will side with the liberals like yourself (on economics, not social issues, you ignorant fucks) in allowing the ruling class to abuse you with impunity, others will fight the system, and punching people who advocate genocide is as far as it goes for us, fortunetly.

Try piss off antifa. We want you to respond to us also so it escalates until it's more than obvious to all that it's the bootlickers versus the resistance.

>Water would get too hot

Umm no, the water would start evaporating, and at that point you just pour more in till you're done shooting.
>>
>>32900426
What is rust?
>>
>>32897586
Done in emergencies but you'd get this yellow powder all over the guns and piss can be slightly acidic so you'd start erroding the barrels.
>>
>>32892972
Fuck off. Black bloc shits showing up at what were peaceful protests and starting shit isn't a reason to massacre everyone who you view as disagreeing with you. >>>/pol/

In a fixed position, I could see liquid cooling being useful, sorta like pic related. Infantry though? Quick changing barrel is better.

If you can BUILD one without being noticed, then it works pretty well for the back of a truck or planted in a high rise somewhere.

Chamber it in .22 caliber and use Aguila Mexican 60 grain ammunition, since its belt fed it wont have much problem with chambering malfunctions.

> doesnt deform or shatter
> still bounces around inside like a pinball
> itll kill these fuckers

Also make it crank driven (like a gatling), or with a kick pedal similar to a sewing machine. That way its not technically full auto and the ATF cant bother you for it (since you can technically peel off just 1 shot with it).

> pedal driven
> that way you can manually direct the weapon with your hands to maintain accuracy instead of jiggling the thing everywhere by turning a crank

Make it look pic related for maximum effect.
