Not trying to get into the shitpost fest that I saw this morning from last night, but the wider objective does have some benefits (even with two eyes open). One being be able to pick up the dot further outside the range of the aimpoint's objective lens, really only useful when shooting from awkward positions during 3 gun or courses though.

Honest assessment is that the MRO is a bretty decent little optic, nothing game changing or absolutely outstanding though. Reflection is an issue when looking into dark environments with a very bright light source directly behind you. Nothing that's going to keep you from getting a shot on target, but distracting to a degree.

I get my upper back from the gunsmith when I get off of work this afternoon. I'll post tonight

sup /k/, thinking about getting a Ruger AR556 as my first (and probably only) AR15. Before I get it, though, I wanted to know if it's worth its salt. I'm not looking for an uber-accurate gun, just a gun to shoot for fun and useful for potential tactical situations; that means it has to be most importantly reasonably priced, rugged and reliable.

Do you recommend I get the AR556 or should I look for something else?

So from what everyone says here, .223 Wolf Gold is great target ammo to stock up on, so that's what I got. I was not disappointed.

However, what is good all-around ammo to stock up on for scenarios where you might actually have to shoot at someone to protect your life (civil unrest, HD, etc.)? I keep leaning towards some flavor of XM193.

I have assloads of .223 target ammo, but virtually nothing 5.56.

I just bought a shit load of Q3340 because it's cheap and doesn't over penetrate so for home defense on flesh it preforms well. If you're expecting to need any barrier penetration stick with FMJ or another tactical round.

So, I'm currently using MBUS Gen 2 as my sights because I normally shoot indoor at a maximum of 100 yards. I've been looking for optics solution and I feel fairly sold on theVortex Optics StrikeEagle 1-6×24 but I want to keep irons. I just start looking at it together thinking, that's retarded I'll never use my irons in that config without a qd mount and if I do that I'll have to sight it in every time I take it off.

Is there a better way?

I'd recommend a surefire handheld like the fury series or the G2X and slap it in an offset mount. Will breach the budget a little, but well worth it.

Alternate would be the PA compact weapon light, but even though I own one as a truck light, I can't vouch for how it holds up under long term use on a rifle.

If you don't mind bulk, you can get bring-back M952v surefires for $50-$100. I've had one for a few years and it is definitely good value for the money, just bulky and heavy.
