How many of you fat fucks are actually physically prepared for any kind of happening? If you aren't capable of endurance running, calisthenics, weight lifting, and some USEFUL form of martial art like boxing or judo, you should just stick your gun in your fucking mouth and eat a bullet. Because you're literally dead weight if SHTF. How many steps you take, your average pace over a certain terrain carrying a certain weight, judging distance and speed and so on. These are the real skills you need. Even in an intense, active warzone you will probably fire your weapon in short instances. Simply practicing that is 2 percent or less of what is required.

I about 341, I go hiking and hunting.
I walk 3 or 4 miles up and down hill, through mud, snow, rain, creeks, thick bush and what ever is in my way. Just to get to my stand and then walk out.

When i went to europe i would walk about 25-30 miles a day.

You can do it, you know. Insulin doesn't grow on the insulin tree. You just get yourself a deer, pig, or even human pancreas and break it down to get the delicious insulin within. Here's what you gotta realize: take the military for example. Short of SOCOM, everything physical in the military is easy or at least within good reach of someone with decent fitness. But a number of civilians often think it's hard shit because most people don't do much at all, other than maybe power-walking or jogging or loitering at the gym.

Our idea of what in-shape means has drastically changed. Now, if you're not too fat, they say you're in "pretty good shape"

Take this guy at my local gym. He's been coming in for three weeks. He doesn't do much. Now, he's a skelly, but he's got a good frame to build on. But because he is slightly toned and not fat, people would call him in shape.

I would say 40-50% of the population in huge swaths of the US would be lucky to pass a PT test.

Fewer still will ever know real training. We no longer kill the buffalo, farm by slash-and-burn, move our camp dozens of miles, climb the rocks and trees.

Calisthenics are just a fancy name for bodyweight training.

Bodyweight exercises are probably the most practical and versatile resistance exercises you can do. Lifting is not nearly as practical.

Sorta related but sorta not I guess, I've been losing weight for enlistment for about 7 months now, down from 315 to 205 @ 6'2. I do this more or less 100% by hiking, current cycle is 15 miles, 4x a week, about 8,000ft gain/loss each go. I've gotten down to a light breakfast (like two eggs and dry toast) and a single 12ounce bottle of water for the whole thing and its dumb easy at this point. At what point should I start adding a weighted pack to my weekly for enlistment/SHTF training?

Honestly mate if you can already tab with a good 15-20kg pack for 15 miles thats pretty good, more weight will only serve to fuck up your knees. Instead try reducing the weight by 40-50% and running intervals during the hike, i.e walk a couple miles to a hill, run up the hill, recover for a mile, run a bit, recover, run, recover, etc. Do NOT do it on hard surfaces like roads though, it will fuck up your knees, and wear trainers/shoes with heel support, not boots.
Did a 5 mile interval up and down hills then along the coast with a 20kg pack, made the mistake of running while wearing boots and on tarmac, knee was in agony for the rest of it, could only really run on the beach because its a softer surface.
On a side note, running in sand with a pack is a bitch, but great cardio, as you have to work more for every step.
