Any reasons to NOT clone an M16a4 as babby's first AR15?

I will be using a pistol as a HD weapon.
>>
No reason not to.
>>
Do you need approval form a anonymous image-board?
>>
If its what you want to build. You've already covered the HD base, so do what you like DESU.
IMO fixed stocks, 20 inch barrels and fixed front sights are totes archaic, but the heart wants what the heart wants.
>>
>>32835542
Just wondering if my money is better spent on a "modern" AR15 build with lightweight free float handguards and 16" barrels.

>>32835543
I think the M16a4 looks badass.
>>
>>32835497
I have one. Only major thing I can say is don't pay full price for a KAC rail. Other than that issues on a clone tend to be the lop on the A2 stock and the shitty A2 grip. If those aren't deal breakers, you do get the sexy 20in barrel and if you drop the cash the ACOGs are nice.

stfu kys fagit
>>
>>32835497
I did my carry handle clone with the KAC rail for under $500. Do it.
>>
>>32835543
I agree with everything except the barrels.
>>
>>32835497
well the only difference between an m16a1, a2, a3, and a4 is whether it has a forward assist and a collapsible stock
>>
>>32835497
It's gonna be pretty long and pretty heavy. If you're cool with that go for it.
>>32837830
Are you stupid? Or shitposting?
>>
>>32836823
What is with the tards in this thread?
A KAC RAS5 costs $300 on its own. So you're saying you built an AR for $200? Fuck off.
>>
>>32838931
>t. doesnt own an m16
>>
>>32838961
I never claimed to own an m16. What's your point?
>>
>>32838977
that you dont know what youre talking about
>>
>>32835497
You probably won't use the rail for anything more than the foredick.

A2 upper is sexier but if you plan on getting an optic then the flat top is the right choice. Even the flat top with a detachable carry handle has a cool look to it.

Like >>32835587 says don't pay full price for the rail, just register on arfcom or some other reputable gunboard (I've seen them for sale even on non ar15 boards they are seriously all over the place) and wait for one to go on sale or even ask for one.

>>32835572
If you like the looks go for it op. 20" ARs don't get enough love these days and are comfy to shoot. If I didn't have an a1 clone with an acog I would build a a4 just for shits and giggles.

You can get by just fine without free floated handguards. 20" fixed stock rifles are awkward indoors compared to, say a 10.5" adjustable stock ar15 but you can make do. And you don't plan on it for hd and I assume you don't plan on mounting and dismounting out of apcs on the reg so the length won't really be an issue for you.
>>
>>32839039
How am I wrong? I'm waiting, you poof.
You have yet to state anything other than "you're wrong".
>>
>>32838955
RAS5 can be picked up for $200 or less. You'd just have to deal with a less than factory perfect rail.
>>
>>32839216
Fair enough.
Still leaves $300 for the rest of the rifle.

I'd be extremely interested to see this rifle.
>>
>>32837799
Why?
>>
>>32835497
It's heavy. If you give no fucks more power to you.

I share your enthusiasm for military-clone ARs.

I want a Vietnam type, be it a pre-A1, A1, XM-E1, or even an XM177.

In all seriousness, get what you want. it's your money, and it's not your job to satisfy other people based on what you shoot.
>>
>>32839214
can you stop shitting up the thread please
>>
>>32839320
If you want a good retro AR, I'd recommend Troy Firearms. They have a pretty solid quality GAU-5A/A and XM177 replica for around $1000-$1200.
>>
>>32839262

Not him but 20" barrels are optimum to get the most velocity out of 5.56. They are the reason m193 manages to pierce up to Level III steel plates. Also leads to improved precision at more distant ranges due to the faster round and flatter trajectory though you're still better off with a different rifle if you're shooting too far out.

>>32835497
Go for it. Here is my diemaco upper abortion.
>>
>>32835497
Depends what you want to do.

Pros:
>Longer sight radius with irons
>Stock helps distribute felt recoil a bit better
>Longer distance of having reliable fragmentation. If you're hunting game at extendo range.

Cons:
>Can't adjust the stock length. If you're arms aren't long enough to fully take advantage of the stock length it is not optimal. You also can't collapse the stock for more maneuverability if moving in a killhouse (if this is your thing).
>Longer barrel is clumiser to maneuver. Again, a downside for killhouses or any kind of tactical match where they dock you points for barrels sticking out.
>The fixed front sight post is noticable if you are using a CCO and will slightly block your view. Not a deal breaker, but slightly annoying when you're spending your own money on it.
>Quad rails can be somewhat uncomfortable on the hands. I'd consider sticking an A2 handguard on it. God knows enough Marines with A4s used A2 handguards, so it's still an "accurate clone".
>A2 pistol grip sucks ballsaq.
>>
Use a barrel that fits your ammunition choice. 1:9 or 1:10 shoots lighter, faster loads better. M16 has most of the bugs out, floating barrel and rail are nice but a 20in barrel is going to out shoot a floated 16 on its own.
>>
>>32839383
>Still has yet to point out how I'm wrong in any way, shape, or form.

Kys noguns.
>>
>>32839383
Not him but all M16Ax rifles have a forward assist and none of them have a collapsible buttstock.
>>
>>32835497
If you want a full size ar15 then go for it. I served with one in the Marines and decided to get an m4 personally.

hell, I found this with like 5 seconds of googling

>>
>>32839963
I could be wrong but I do believe early M16A1s did not have a forward assist
>>
>>32840130
Okay. I'm just gonna make a list here.
1. You have to be 18 to post on this board
2. That is not an m16. Not even close.
3. Please leave.
>>
>>32840144
>>32840179
You're missing my point.
My main problem was the notion that you could throw together an A4 clone for $500. I'm aware you can find used KAC stuff.
>>
>>32840238
The pre a1 models didn't have the FA.

a1 was the one that introduced it.
>>
>>32835497
Remember to get the A4 model of the acog.

There is literally no reason to not get a Magpul MOE grip
>>
>>32840283
What the fuck are you going on about?
>>
i'd like to see some early 2001-2005 clones with the MARS sight and the acog with the extended rail on the a2 uppers.

I wonder where all those mars sights went when it was battalion funds discretion on buying optics back in those days.
>>
>>32839425
>Not him but 20" barrels are optimum to get the most velocity out of 5.56
Oh it's this meme again. There are more 5.56 loads than M193, guy.
>>
>>32840249
1. i am mature for my age
2. yes it is, ive seen plenty of them TRUST ME
3. no. you leave and i wont say please

>>32840266
PSA Rifle Kit - $400
Anderson Lower - $30
KAC Rail - $70
to be fair I had the carry handle sitting around already but yes, if you are remotely patient you can do an A4 clone that cheap and easily.
>>
>>32839454
That's awful, my guy.
>>

this is so fucking wrong it hurts
>>

Mall ninja trash. Either nothing or one with extendable bi-pods.
>>
>>32840342
Hurr durr your wrong
>>
i dont remember if the mil guns had a metal floor plate for the cleanign kit or plastic.

anyone remember?
>>
>>32840386
It was metal.
>>
>>32840348
Nig, are you talking about the foregrip? because thats an AFG. you called it a pistol grip which for what you're referring to is unequivocally wrong
>>
>>32835497
Do it.
>PSA freedom A2 LPK is $110 shipped
>Windham Weaponry chrome lined A2 barrel with A2 front sight is $200 shipped
>buy gas tube, A2 flash hider, gas tube roll pin, upper, and bcg
You're done. The rail can be had as said before on gun board marketplaces, and sometimes eBay if you continuously check.

I built my A2 for around $650 I think; could have been less but I overpaid for the stripped upper by about $60.

I love my A2, the recoil is very soft and smooth. The rifle buffer and spring is great. My only complaint has been listed before, the LOP of the stock is pretty long. However if you're really motivated you could throw an A1 stock on there and call it good.
>>
>>32840404
thanks armory .
>>
>20 inches
>Smacking your barrel around everywhere like a nonoperator
>>
>>32840544
>machine gunner.
>dont want to give em pistols because female sncos need them
>dont want to give them m4s because motor t needs them
>give the guy carrying a 240 an a4.

Weird how supposedly all battalions have m4s now.

wonder how they micromanaged that. probably added a few more ounces to the packing list.
>>
>>32840308
Cant change facts friendo

>>32840309

you're, either noguns, retarded, or both
>>
>>32841066
Are you a real Navy seal
>>
>>32841150
Grip pods are not mall ninja, their actually pretty useful, serving both roles as a bipod and forgrip. What is mall ninja as fuck are fucking long range scopes and bipods, nigga most 16" barrels are only good for 150 yards, any optics past x2 are a waste and dedicated bipod screams, "Imma navy SEAL sniper!"
>>
Bought my receiver today, now I'm getting the parts together. Gonna finish off the lower first. Aside from BCM and Aero Precision, who else makes a complete 20" upper? I would prefer one with the KAC M5 so I don't have to hunt one down.

This is what I have in a shopping cart. Let me know if anything is unnecessary.
>LPK without trigger
>A2 grip
>A2 stock kit
>Geissele SSA trigger

Cost is $300.
