the way I understand it, if the attacker has a gun and there is absolutely no doubt that he will use it (presumption of harm isn't enough in France, you have to prove that he actually intended to harm you), you might get off with self-defense, if you case isn't mediated too much (it happened recently with a woman killing her abusing husband).
