10/22 or model 60 sb?
I'm looking to pick up a cheap plinker and noticed walmart had a nice looking model 60sb for around 170 I believe. They also had a 10/22 with a synthetic stock. I'm more of a wood guy myself but wasn't sure if the quality of marlin went down since being bought out by remington. Or would paying more for the ruger be the better choice?

My vote is for a Ruger 10/22. Higher capacity and accuracy isn't going to be that much more amazing. Though.. I did shoot an older model 60 that was scary accurate. Not sure how hit or miss they are now compared to Ruger.

Model 60, it can easily out-shoot a stock 10/22.

The 10/22 is way more versatile but 60s are good, I own one and I love it. For the money they're excellent and accurate but if customization and detachable mags are your thing then get the 10/22.
I've owned 6 different 10/22 vaiants since 1985. All were very reliable and easy to disassemble or modify. 4 of the 6 shot sub moa with good ammo. Quality has gone down slightly with time, but not much. Triggers are crisp but seem to break at about 25#. Plenty of aftermarket triggers if the gun is accurate enough to warrant improvement.
I think I'll probably end up getting the marlin with stainless. I plan on keeping it stock minus putting a different scope on it. I'm sure I'll get a 10/22 down the road and customize that.
