Does anyone here own an M1903? I found a rebuilt one with a nice bore at an LGS for $700 and was looking to trade in for it. I wanted to know if anyone has experiemce with how easy the sights are to adjust and if they aim high or not. I know they were originally sighted in at 500 yards and sometimes 200 yards.

Oh and I should note; the sight graduations only work if you're using M2 ball or a ballistic equivalent, otherwise the trajectory doesn't match and you won't hit anything.

I will argue the 03a3 is an inferior rifle.
The first batch of Remington a3s were only lacking in fit and finish but got progressively less durable as parts were cheaper and hastier in production from stampings.

I hate the 1903 rear sight, its needlessly overcomplicated and delicate. The a3 rear aperture was an improvement but also made from stampings and easily damaged and often bumped loose. They also had less than stellar adjustments

Its still a great rifle though despite Remington's current state.

They should of redesigned the rear receiver to accept Garand sights

I died a little inside when I woke up. Is there such a thing as publicly accessible warehouses of milsurp guns? Specifically in the south Florida area?

Anniston Army Depot still has a ton of WWII made guns, some still brand new. It's of course, not publicly accessible, but there have been vids of it from like 20 years ago. It may have been on Tales of the Gun?

I've always wondered, how hard is it to find ammo for those little japanese pistols? I'd imagine that's even harder to come by than the rifles.
>>
>>32826257
Very difficult, and new production was absolutely awful.
The guns, themselves, are almost exactly like the Luger in that you have to go through them entirely to make sure their springs are working correctly or you will have problems.

Unlike the Luger, however, you don't have a wide variety of ammunition and must work to have it function with sketchy reloads off the internet that are underloaded for "safety" or load your own by collecting brass.

I hate to sound like a dick but weren't the stamped parts on the a3 rifles inconsequential ? Things like floorblates, sling swivels, trigger guards, that kind of thing ?

Also, how the fuck do you manage to bump an m1903a3 sight loose ? It's dovetailed... another stupid bit, the a3 sight is range and windage adjustable just like the garand.

Sure a stamped Floorplates is no big deal. It just leaves you with a cheaper rifle. Look at milled parts price vs stamped. Arguably a stamped trigger guard is less resistant to being mashed on something than a milled is also. The stamped bayonet lugs were certainly piss easier to twist than a milled piece.

The rear sight comming loose was an issued they had. It originally just had a set screw but GIs were banging them loose while inna world war. They went to pounding a stake into them. They still came loose once in a whule, but it wasn't as bad.
That dovetail isn't very deep either, and a stamped base is all its grabbing onto.

The sight on a garand has 32 notches, 64 if you're using a NM adjuster which are roughly 1 moa and 1/4 moa per notch, i forget the actual notch count

The a3 has a slider with 12 whole setting notches with semingly random adjustments. Its a rough working sight.

Certainly accurate, but not as refined as the garand

The 03 isn't that much better, it has much more precise adjustment but dick for sight picture and its barrel mounted, its a toss up on sight preference, the a3 just could od done better

A3 sight source

Don't feel too bad anon. it looks decent. $200 wasn't too much all things considered. You won't find the correct bands anywhere, and i doubt they would fit properly if bubba managed to cram the long rifle nosecap onto the end.

Strip that poly crap off the stock and redo it with some orange shellac, it will look close to Uruishi.

You could get a proper arisaka barrel if you want the 6.5 nippon. I don't think .257 can be bored out into anything sadly.

Overall it would be a fun shooter, maybe a game getter.
>>
>>32829064
I'd recommend a K11 from southern ohio gun for 350.These rifles are extremely accurate even when compared to some modern day rifles. They shoot just as nice as the k31s and you can buy RUAG ammo for 50 cents a round. It's military grade stuff and will shoot to very high standards. The k11s themselves are usually in great shape and are sure to only rise in value.

I saw SKSs on j&g for $469 and that seems to be the only place I can find ones that are
California compliant
. They also have spanish mausers for as low as $129. What could I expect in getting one of those, and what would be better between that and the mosin?

http://www.southernohiogun.com/longguns/surplus-longguns/swiss-schmidt-rubin-rifle-m1896-11-7-5x55mm.html

For fifty bucks more you are getting a rifle that can shoot a target at 2000 yards, vs a Mosin which sometimes can't even get an 8 inch grouping at 100 yards. I would wait on any SKS or Mosins until trump might lift the import ban on Russian goods and we could possibly see those fall back down in price.
>>
>>32831784
unless you know specifically what you're getting that's a bit high for a mosin, and probably not going to be that amazing of a shooter. I would never buy a Mosin sight unseen, they vary so much from rifle to rifle it's ridiculous.

Have you been to any stores or peddler's malls or anything like that? Just grabbing a mosin off the internet is kind of boring, it takes the fun out of finding the one that's just right for you. They all have different markings and stories that even a single crate can have a ton of variety.

If you're wanting something specifically for shooting the Mausers might be ok but $129 makes me immediately think "what's wrong with them?"
>>
>>32831823
it's neat, but honestly something about straight pull bolts turns me off. If it was cheaper I might go for it

>>
>>32831942
>will they actually fall in price? Is that something that's actually going to happen?

Why would he? That would hurt American businesses by undercutting them with cheap Russian imports, can't have that.

Same with the CMP getting restocked, I highly doubt the gun companies around here would be too thrilled to find out that the market is about to be flooded with cheap, genuine M1 Carbines, Garands, and 1911's.

why the hell would you bubba them? They look great as is.

Anything you could hope to accomplish by bubbaing would be better served by buying a modern rifle, especially in the fact that you are essentially "ruining" a history piece. May as well get a new rifle which will be cheaper, brand new, and ready to go.

That's just my opinion though.

So your inner bubba can be quelled with minimal damage to those beauties. I picked up a ljungman a couple months ago for $700 at an estate auction. Is it true how finicky these are with ammo? I've heard the only things you can shoot out of them is PPU since they load to military specs, and other ammo types can blow up the rifle, unless you hand load of course. What ammo have you used with yours?

Thinking about buying a tokarev tt33 or the yugo version, im conflicted;

Polish one? or russian??
-Bit cheaper than the yugo
-surplus
-only 8 rounds
-lots of mags easily available for it

yugo m57?
-new gun
-9 round mags
-grip is slightly longer due to mag size
-mags are hard to find
-normal slavshit tt33 mags dont work

price difference really isnt that much between the two

wat do, still tons of surplus ammo available for it here
>>
>>32833208
Polish is best quality; Russian is most collectable. Don't get a new M57 they suck; get a surplus one.
>>
>>32832408
Yeah this. Sometimes I get pretty solid deals on gunbroker, other you just have to beat down the competition. I've never regretted "paying too much" on a really nice example
>>
>>32833256
Theres a yugo stamped tt33 (originally russian Izhevsk Arsenal date is 1947 on it) for $195 so this one seems pretty interesting, VG condition

The polish one is about $260, but comes with a leather holster cleaning shit, ranon arsenal dated between 1950-1955. Excellent condition.

Thoughts?

Gewehr 24(tschechoslowakei) is the designation for the Czech Vz.24 short rifle in Nazi German service (note: when used by the Germans it referred to ANY Vz.24 rifle they took into service, regardless of date of manufacture). When Germany took over Czechoslovakia in 1938 they took control of the CZ-Brno Vz.24 production lines in the cities of Brno and Povaska Bystrica, and continued production of the Vz.24. As previously mentioned they called the rifle G.24(t). The G.24(t) marking was introduced onto the Vz.24 receivers during production, but because there were so many receivers already partially finished it took some time for rifles actually marked "G.24t" to come off the production line. The Germans wanted to switch the factories to producing Kar.98k, but rather than wasting the many many existing Vz.24 parts they made the change gradually from 1940-1942, so rifles made in this time period might show any combination of Kar.98k and Vz.24 features. Yours for instance has a Kar.98k-style laminate stock, cupped buttplate, bolt disassembly bushing, and slot-mounted sling but still has the full-length Vz.24 handguard, upper and lower barrel bands, front sight base and straight bolt hangle.

It's unknown how many G.24(t) rifles were actually made because of how the changes were instituted gradually to the production line, but probably a couple hundred thousand at least fit the bill before the rifle coming off the line was entirely a Kar.98k.

I've only shot PPU through it too, since that is also what I've read. Carl Gustafs, it's a 1916 so pre-dates Husky. Apparently they only used Elm as a stock wood in that one year as the war exhausted supplies of Walnut, I don't recall if the Swedes used Beech at that time but presumably that would have been in high demand too. So they worked in Elm.

I love the way its long and straight grain matches the long and slender form the of rifle, I think m/96s are some of the most elegant and pretty looking rifles ever made.

Acceptable, but perhaps immoral or regrettable insofar as the use of historic and irreplaceable parts go to use on a build up gun. They could be used to repair a historic one, and they will run out one day. I wouldn't really hold it against someone though since it's an appreciation of history and would make a fine rifle as far as shooting is concerned.

Nothing wrong with that, but it's not a cheap club to get in. So if you're just looking for a cheap blaster, look at a 22 or a AR. But if you don't mind shooting less or spending more on ammo, there are some options. So it depends what you want and how much you wanna shoot.

It was a sub caliber training rifle. That hole had two a bolt on each side and those bolts held on a piece that attached it to an artillery piece.

It would look kinda like pic related, but this is a US Springfield. If anyone wondered what a M1903A2 was, this was it.

So I have a problem and I'm looking for suggestions as to what to do.

I bought a lemon for my first gun. Its a Turkish mauser 1903/38 and there was a slight crack in the stock that kept getting bigger and bigger. Started off at like 1/2 in when I bought it so I thought no big deal. Now it's 3-4 inches.

I'm afraid to shoot it and have the wood splinter off.

Should I sucker someone else to buy it, buy all new furniture, or just leave it as is?
>>
>>32844979
I bought it like that. No idea why anyone would do that

So a friend of mine has a Enfield No.1 MK3* for sale, and I'm wondering if I should grab it. The nose cap has a bit of scuffing on it from general age, but everything else is in good order (no chips/cracks in the wood, no bluing missing, no rust). The other big pluses is that it has all matching numbers and the barrel may as well be brand new. It's shiny as a mirror and has the cleanest rifling I've ever seen.

He ideally wants $300 for it, but how low do you think I can get him to go without looking like a jackass?

They made 45,000 of them. I would put them in the rare category.

There used to be a guy that had one on gunbroker for years. He had the BIN at like $4,000 and no one would go anywhere that high.

What do you mean by that? $300 is a fair price if the serial numbers match. If it's only dirty and not actually corroded it should be fine.

Front sights are cheap and easy to replace

So I'm looking for my first large ring mauser, I want an early one with roller coaster sights if possible, I have a small swede and CZ collection so I was leaning towards early CZs. How abundant are they, and would a decent one cost an arm and a leg? If not the CZ, then what else fits the bill?

Lange-Visier sight is found on the German Gew.98 made from 1898-1918 and post-WW1 Czech Vz.98 and Polish W.98 in 8x57mm, also on Paraguayan M1907 and Peruvian M1909 rifles in 7.65x53mm. Of these, the Gew.98 are the most commonly available, but can be the most expensive. They usually range from $400 for a mis-matched Turkish-used example to $1000+ for a matching example in good or better original condition or for one of the smaller manufacturers.

>I was leaning towards early CZs
There were 10,000 Vz.98 produced with the Lange sight; they are not usually expensive (I paid $360 for mine) but do not come up for sale often.

Very nice handguns but getting good ammo is a problem. Most manufacturers make under-powered loads for them and thus the guns tend to not cycle or eject properly. Reload for best performance.

There are no legit m/39PU snipers; the Finns had so many other scopes by that time they didn't bother with stripping M91/30PUs. Century Arms got a bunch of genuine Russian PU scopes back in the early '90s and mounted them on Finnish m/91s, m/39s, and m/30s.

I guess that makes sense
I'll just wait it out and see how high it goes. I think the highest I'd be willing to pay is probably 350

I've got a lead on a Turk'd gewehr 88/05 that's mechanically in good shape but the stock has been refinished. it's been lightly sanded, the stock disc has been replaced with a wooden plug, and a rubbed oil finish applied. my main concern is ammo. I know the /05's have the right bore for 8x57S, but the 88 action isn't the strongest. Would regular pussified US commercial 8x57 be safe to regularly fire without concern?
>>
Can somebody who has Steyr Mannlicher M95 clips please give me dimensions for the clip?

I have recently gone a bit over budget with the purchase of an m95 and now am too conscientious of my current budget to spend $50+ on one single clip (conversion rate, shipping), and would rather just make my own out of sheet steel to use to play around with the rifle until I clear up some money to get actual clips. I would need only significantly important dimensions, such as height, length, width, the notch the retains the clip in the magazine, etc.

I promise to return the favour by posting pics of a complete handmade clip if it goes successfully.

Cheers and Thanks!

The Germans gave no fuchs about firing S-Patrone in their 88/05s. I wouldn't worry about it. The Gew.88 action is pretty strong, and the bolt handle acts like a safety lug. C.G. Haenel kept making the Gew.88 action commercially with a Mauser-style magazine after

The bore diameter for Gew88s was the same for the 98s. The only thing that changed was the bullet diameter and the groove diameter went up from from .321 to .323. For older rifles they just opened the chamber up to allow the brass to open up more so the bullets can swage down easier.

The stock disk is a silver replacement with the owner's name and a placename on it (a Mr. Johan Andersson of Elesthorpe if I remember correctly), kind of common for these civilian target rifles. I don't have a closeup of it.

The sights are excellent, and very robust for a target aperture. I think the Soderin (this model) are the least expensive to the Swede target sights but none of them go particularly cheap. If your rifle's drilled for them I would look into it, personally I can't shoot open sights well with my eyes so these are invaluable to me. They turn the already accurate m/96 into a complete tack driver. But then again you'd want to be completely sure of a successful fit before you dropped the cash on these things. On the upside you could always use the existing front post with an apeture rear, I would almost prefer that over my globe front sight and I see a lot of these old FSR/civillian rifles set up like that.
