What branch of the ADF should I join? >18 years old >manlet

I've been thinking about joining the cav scouts since I don't mind walking long distances but I want to know what /k/ thinks.

I was all of these when I joined the RAN, minus the manlet.

It'll definitely assist with the development of overall life skills. I would go with Stores Naval if you wanna spend a career in the Navy as you do fuck all but stock take and deck crewman duties.

There are plenty of resources and forums related to Defence jobs online.

If you're not retarded use the archives as well to dig up the posts of some ADF tripfags.

Your current capabilities are irrelevant atm unless you're aiming for SOTG placement.

Ask yourself what your strengths and weaknesses skill wise.

Can you tolerate desk work/ data entry?

Can you tolerate being away from your family/partner for extended periods of time?

How long do you want your career to be?

You looking full time or reserves?

Do you want to save up to live comfortably or plan for a family?

Do you think you can tolerate with living the rest of your life with permanent disability?

Do you worry about the possibility of your parents burying you before their time?

Do you currently have any debt/mortgages to pay off?

Can you tolerate confined living spaces living with the people you work with day in day out?

These are just some of the questions you need to ask yourself before you even consider taking your YOU session.

Most are 18-21. Beware of civi recruiters who claim you need life experience, this is one of their throwaway lines.

Manlet in height or manlet in build? Nearly every 18 year old is a manlet in build. If you're short work on your strength and endurance to make up for the lack of height.

Unacceptable for any combat role. Start training now, even a moderate session 3-4 times a week will make a huge difference.

Then you're fine for 95% of jobs the ADF has.

I'd recommend infantry as a starting point. If you're 18 it will give you some good experience, teach you some basic organisational skills and give you the basis building blocks for whatever career you choose afterwards. Plus, you can always corps transfer to another role. Avoid artillery, transport, ordinance corps, or signals. They're all pleb tier.

If you're average intelligence then the RAAF could set you up with a mediocre work attitude and set of skills. If you're a bit smarter there are some very interesting intelligence roles in the RAAF.

Navy is unique. Beware their sailors get treated like shit. Soldiers would never tolerate the way navy officers behave. Good for technical skills or if you want to see the world.

If you're going to go to a recruiting centre think about what you really want out of a career in the ADF. If you're just looking to kill a few years then one of the basic roles will be ideal. If you want to be a lifer, then look at something a bit more specialised. In either event I'd recommend having someone sit down and rehearse your interview with you. The ADF is shrinking and they aren't exactly short of decent recruits at the moment.
