MiG will grow larger.

MiG-35 officially unveiled.

How successful on the market do you think it will be?
>>
Hooray, time for another vaporware next-gen russian plane
>>
>>32797290
>Oh look another slav plane that's still stuck in the 70s in terms of airframe design.
>>
>>32797334
Russia's got a domestic order for 37 and Egypt's ordered 50 to go along with their Rafales.

There's a market for MiG-21/23/29 replacements. And as long as the Russians shit on the Chinese shit boxes for countries who won't buy American or European, I'm happy.

>>32797368
You got some aerodynamic and RCS reduction improvements, I mean for us F-15s, F-16 and F-18s continued to be sold. Mechanicals have been replaced by FBW.
>>
>>32797290

Watch as they build six and cancel the programme.
>>
From news statements, it seems like the Russian want to replace all their MiG-29s with 35s.

About 170 in all with 30-40 in the initial batch. I highly doubt they will get all of them.

And concurrent with production starting in 2018, MiG have stated they're working on a next generation plane to complement the PAK FA.

Why would anyone buy a MiG-29s derivative? They've had the worse performance out of any 4th gen fighter.

No reason. It only proves Russia's backwardness. This is their first jet with to have AESA.

Funny when their best planes are Su-35s.

Technically "no" on the Super Hornet.

They are similar in regards to appearance and name, maybe some design similarities, but they have as much in common as an F-8 Crusader and an A-7 Corsair II. They don't even share the same parts.

The Super Hornet only got its name and designation because the Pentagon was being autists about procurement after the Cold War, similar to how Cheney killed the Tomcat. So they pushed it as an upgrade even though it's a totally new jet.

1911, endures
MR, endures
AK, Endures
Glock, Endures

Sometimes Iteration is better than a fresh redesign. The F-15A is a far cry in materials, structure, and production method than the F-15E or even C. the Saudi eagle is vastly different than the Strike.

There are only so many changes aerodynamically you can do. Its why twin tail fighters all share a common form. It isint the best, but all around does well.

Grr how the fuck do I know you ask? I've worked on F-15 A, C,D,E over 7 years. (the a model was a static display that was being gutted, but still, it counts.)

Because their whole infrastructure already build for Migs. Technicians trained for MiGs, pilots trained for MiGs, service equipment bought for MIGs, missiles, fuel, e.t.c - everything is build for MiGs. And rebuild whole system for Rafals would be very fucking expensive. I mean, look on Poland. They still use Soviet MiGs. And they're in NATO.
Also, sometimes you want to buy plane who can carry weapon instead of plane who can carry only fuel tanks.
>>
>>32801212

Poland is a bad example for your point, because the only reason they acquired any Mig-29 post USSR was because other former Warsaw Pact countries (Czechs and Germany) were getting rid of theirs. The only new-build fighters Poland has bought are F-16C/Ds, which is the opposite of your point (a Mig user moving to western aircraft).

The Mig-35 will fill an important part toward the lower end of the Russian export lineup, but it can't rely on brand loyalty.

>They've had the worse performance out of any 4th gen fighter.

[citation needed]

If they are so shit then why does the USAF spend a fortune to have their pilots train against Polish and Serbian MiG29s and to have their pilots fly co-pilot in the aircraft?
>>
>>32801578
The only reason Germany got rid of their MiG29s was because they wanted to make amends with Poland for invading them and holocausting their population. It had nothing to do with performance.
>>
>>32801614
>cost 4x as much

So what's your point exactly? Four MIG 29s would carry far more payload than a single eurofighter.

>>32797368
You can't improve upon perfection, anon.
>>
>>32797290
Probably not too well when there are tons of superior western planes for sale.
>>
>>32801652
>why does the USAF spend a fortune to have their pilots train against Polish and Serbian MiG29s
Because slavshit is the most likely opponent.
If your enemy is likely to fly garbage, then you train against garbage.
>>
>>32801668
But now you have four pilots you have to train.

>>
>>32798737
Anyone can "afford" to buy F-16, some are even forced to. Still some prefer an actually good aircraft over free american junk.
>>
>>32801986
and four planes you have to maintain, and 8 times as many engine replacements over its service life.

and you still lose all 4 the first time they encounter a typhoon in combat
>>
>>32797290
>another fucking upgrade package

Why not just spend the money and buy more than a dozen PAK-fas?
>>
>>32801662

I wasn't saying that this happened because the Mig-29 sucks, I was just making the point that Poland acquiring more of them wasn't due to export success, but because they got them for free.

Germany got rid of their Mig-29 because they were reducing military spending, and introducing a new fighter aircraft (the Typhoon). Sure there might have been talk of a reparation type gesture, but reducing military spending while still making a large Eurofighter order was the main reason.
>>
>>32802488

Because the Russian defence industry is dependant on exports to survive, and relatively few countries looking for fighters can afford modernised Flankers. Russia is hoping that they'll make enough from Mig-35 exports to mostly offset the Mig-35 program costs.
>>
>>32801635
But Mig-29 is smaller Su-27, work my over the top logic from there.
>>
>>32802488
Because PAK-FA is a scam made to con poo-land to pay for more important military projects.
>>
>>32797607
Egypt got Mig-29M/M2 tho
>>
>>32803107
MiG-35 is just a fancy name for MiG-29M2. Same as MiG-33 was for MiG-29M before.
>>
The Mig bureau is and always had been shit since WWII and survived only through political connections. At least shill for Sukhoi, dumb OP.

>MiG-35 is just a fancy name for MiG-29M2

This is unfortunately true. There are almost no meaningful airframe differences. No new engines either, which are notorious for needing far more overhauls than any of its competitors.

There is no real reason that anyone would want to purchase this junk, apart from countries that literally have no other choice.
>>
>>32803354
MiG-21/25/31 were pretty advanced for their time, sure the company became less important through out the cold war but you shouldn't discount their achievements.
>>
>>32803680
>There are almost no meaningful airframe differences
MiG-29M2 as it was 2 decades ago and MiG-35 now vastly differ. It's like comparing MiG-29K from 1988 to MiG-29K that actually entered service in 2010s.
>needing far more overhauls than any of its competitors
And being piss cheap and easy to maintain compared to any of them.
>There is no real reason that anyone would want to purchase this
Anyone who wants a piss cheap light fighter with AESA would want this.

Too bad countries that actually own MiGs all report their atrocious life cycle cost and poor reliability. Russia has even shunned them, like an unwanted child.

You will be able to count the total number of export customers this shitheap will have on a single hand. Su-35 has been a similar flop.
