My first long gun was a Remington 783. They're good and cheap and I've never had any issues with it

Buy an SKS and save your money for an AK or AR.

Or get an M1 Garand from the CMP.

I wish I had one but I can't find anything that says so. I tried to buy an AR from the store on base and I was told since I was under 21 I couldn't have a pistol or anything with a pistol grip. I'm actually about to call SF's armory and see if they know anything about this

Get a ruger 10/22. Cheap gun. Cheap ammo. Fun police leave you alone. Almost as fun as an AR unless you can go to a range thats 300+ yards, which are impossible to find in California.

Also if you ever step up to an AR, you will have some variety in the 22. The SKS that will just sit and collect dust once you get a good AR.

So I just talked to Security Forces at the Armory and they said that people buy guns with pistol grips all the time even when they're under 21 the guy at the store was just bullshiting me. However thanks to you guys I did find an SKS with matching serial numbers and a few accessories for $450 and I'll probably buy that instead. Thanks /k/
