This will be a weird post. That being said, is anyone else pissed that bullets aren't perfect mm? Like why do we use 5.56mm, why not 6mm?
Also, it pisses me off that we have to buy guns from multiple different manufacturers to get a good selection of weapons.
Why isn't there a company that produces different types of firearms ranging from large to small.
I'm so fucking triggered I honestly want to start my own company, just so I don't have to use a rifle using a round that doesn't end in a .0mm measurement.
Anyone else know this feel?
What weapons do you feel are missing from the market?

In my opinion, the only perfect gun on the market is the B&T VP9.
>has 5 rounds
>manually have to eject each spent shell
>integrally suppressed
>9mm
>easy to conceal
>when the magazine is separated from the barrel, it just looks like a bicycle pump.
Are there any other perfect guns?
>>
>>32778522
>why not 6mm?
There are 6mm bullets, or .243 caliber. It's used in a pretty popular hunting round. The US Army did some trials in the 70s with a 6mm round.

Or do you mean literally 6mm on the dot? Like .236 caliber? I think the Chinese use that in their rifle.
>>
>>32778740
Nope, China uses 5.8
>>
>>32778614

I'd rather have a Welrod, honestly.

Yes I realize I can use things like 6mm, 9mm, or 10mm.
But outside of 9mm para, none of these rounds are what I would consider common or cheap.
I just want to start my own company, make my own toys essentially to satisfy my autism.

FN makes a wide assortment of firearms. Ruger does as well, now that I think of it. Beretta does pistols, shotguns, and rifles. I am sure that there are more examples. I expect that you would be will served by doing a bit more research on the subject.

On the subject of measurements, I feel like I could completely ruin your life by giving you a set of digital calipers.

>China uses a 5.8
I'm pretty sure the actual bullet used in the cartridge is .236 caliber. They call it 5.8 [or rather we do, I don't know what the official designation is in China] because 6mm is used to refer to .243 caliber here. 4.85mm British wasn't actually 4.85mm, it was 5mm even.
>>
>>32778522
Systems of measurement are completely arbitrary anyways.
>>
>>32778878

The official designation in Chinese is 5.8x42 弹步枪普通87; DBP87, Dàn Bùqiāng Pŭtòng, 1987.

It's .236in dia

The metre is defined as the distance travelled by light in a vacuum in 1299 792 458 seconds. One second is the time that elapses during 9,192,631,770 (9.192631770 x 10 9 ) cycles of the radiation produced by the transition between two levels of the cesium 133 atom.

How the is that arbitrary?
>>
>>32778960
Not really. Systems of mortality have pretty clear reasons for their rules. Measurement is totally arbitrary.

Why is a meter 1/10,000,000 the distance from the north pole to paris?

Why 1/10,000,000? Why Paris? If they decided it to be 1/20,000,000 would we all be shooting 11.12mm?

Why is a foot a foot? Whose foot? The kings? Why his? Why not the average of all feet?

See what I mean?
>>
>>32779036
Those were made as scientifically precise definitions of the existing meter.

and it's 1/299792458th of a second. Things would get pretty confusing if it meters were 2.4212845475e+14 Miles.

Calibers are all over the place .338, .22, .454 etc...
5mm 6mm 7mm 8mm 9mm 10mm 11mm 12mm
All of these would be beautiful cartridges.
What would I call my firearms manufacturing /k/?

Yes and no, the rubber disks inside the suppressor that make it so quiet are replaceable quite easily. That said, having to disassemble the suppressor every 10 or so rounds to swap out the rubber disks or face a substantial loss in noise reduction is slightly obnoxious.

The length of said atoms would vary, depending on weather, gravity and velocity. Light speed is constant for all observers. Time does not pass at the same speed for everyone. People at the equation travel forward in time faster than people at the poles. We have to use equations and to keep our GPS satellites in check. However, radioactive atoms decay at a known rate. From this, anyone can establish the passage of time locally by watching some Cesium 133 decay.

You read his (autistic) post wrong. Or at least I think you did.

nah 8mm mauser is 8.2mm but it's called 7.92x57

and op is dumb as hell for thinking 5.56 is actually 5.56mm too because it's 5.7mm, they don't name a caliber after the actual bullet diameter all that often

>>32780970
Then what is it named after?
>>
>>32781563
I think they are named by the diameter, of the rifling lands. So 5.56x45 outer bullet dimension is 5.69, but the rifling lands are 5.56.

Russia for example measures in the opposite, and it's why 7.62x39 bullets are something like .311
>>
>>32780970
Actually they are named by the barrel/bullet diameter depending on how you are measuring it.

>you actually think they just come up with a semi random number? Kill yourself
>>
>>32781605
Just to be sure, is it the inside or the outside of the rifling grooves of the barrel?
Also, which do you guys think I should obsess over, the diameter of the bullet, or the rifling?>>32781622
Do you know if 9mm is measured from the diameter of the bullet or barrel?
I think I'll start there.

>>
>>32778522
no real improvement over the 5.7mm / .224" projectile used by the west or the 5.59mm / .220" projectile used by the east

DAILY REMINDER THAT DIFFERENT CARTRIDGES ARE NAMED DIFFERENTLY BECAUSE BORES AND LANDS AND GROOVES AND BULLETS AND DIFFERENT MEASURING DOCTRINE

.300 / 5.56 ala 300WM, 300BLK, 5.56x45mm NATO come from the land to land diameter
.308 Winchester comes from the groove to groove diameter
5.7x28 comes from the projectile diameter

They're just dumb numbers, man. You can load and shoot .224 bullets meant for 5.56 in 5.45x39. You can load .309 bullets meant for .308 barrels in 7.62x39 or 54R and it'll stabilize fine and won't overpressure.

Ask yourself a few questions.
What are you measuring, where from an why.
Are you measuring the bullet? Are you measuring the gun bore, is the bore measured on the lands or the valleys of the rifling, does your size include the tolerances for heat expansion?
Or are you working from the cartridge? Neck or body?
The options go on
