I'd go with he P320. Its modular design allows you to drop it in to larger and smaller frames if you ever decide to carry. I have it in 357 Sig for home defense.

considering op's budget he could get an 7 or 8 shot .357 mag if he really wanted too. However coming from experience .357 and even 38 special add up in price. Id also agree to get 9mm because practice loads are like 10 dollars for a box of 50... instead of 20 for cheap .357s. Id say a glock or m9 are always a safe bet. if op wants a heavier gun m9, if not then glock. Also if op turns into a revolver fag overnight then a .357 all day everyday. Most irl gun defense scenarios don't require much rounds anyway unless you get attacked by a rabid back of niggers

Pretty much any gun is going to be mechanically more accurate than you. The m9's stock trigger is meh which will be probably the biggest factor in accuracy for you.

For 700 you have a fuckload of options. Personally I LOVE my Beretta Px4. Thing is fun to shoot, comfortable as fuck in the hand, and retardedly easy to break down, clean, and reassemble. They come with two 17 round magazines. It also looks like a space gun.

You could also get an AK pistol easily for that price.

Either of these guns will leave you with plenty of money for ammo.
