Is $100 reasonable for an FFL transfer?

Fuck, no. I have problems with 25$ because the good gunshop used to charge 15$ before cunts ruined it and they want 50$ now. There's also an outdoor shop near me that will do rifles for 10$ and pistols for 12$.
>>
>>32765147
I'm sorry. It's just that I've never done one before, and might have the scratch to go after my first rifle, soon. Is it very unreasonable? What's a good fee level to look for?

Here, to show you I'm serious: http://www.gunsourcehawaii.com/v/vspfiles/assets/images/ffl.pdf

Should I look for another gun shop?

I'm hoping I can help to change the laws, someday. Maybe it's naĂŻve, but I feel deeply attached to my homeland; my family has lived here since they immigrated back in the days of steamships. I want to help fix things, y'know?

On the bright side, it's not so bad that I'll get my tires slashed for having an NRA sticker; at the very least I'm allowed an unpopular opinion. It's not as good in some places on the mainland, right? I've only visited but once, and that was to hang out and fly fish with a buddy at his cabin up in northern california.

Having FTE problems with my Star Super B. One magazine is almost 100% failure to extract or stovepipes, the other I can get maybe 2 - 3 rounds off a full magazine eject properly. Also, anyone have a source for extractors and springs for these goddamn things? Does it exist?

Check your ejector, check your ammo, check your wrist. If all three of these do not fix it then buy a new extractor, new ammo, and a new wrist.

So I'm looking at buying only one optic for the rest of my life.

Is the Elcan DFOV156-C1 good/worth the amount they ask for? Online they said it is sighted in for 20" barrel for 62 gr M855

I'll only be able to buy a 20" AR. Not only that No range around me allows M855. I'm limited to "cheap" winchester softpoint 55gr .223, and the 77 - 100 gr market.

I just got back into shooting after a long hiatus so the past year I was buying up a lot of stuff that had been on my list for awhile. Plus I wanted to get a couple scary rifles in case the dems won big in november.

Bought 9 guns in roughly 9 months. Nothing super expensive, just a couple duty guns, a couple CC choices, shotgun, bolt action, AR, AK, etc.

Now that i have all my practical stuff sorted out i've started collecting old guns that interest me. Mainly .32 auto stuff, early 1900s pistols, etc. Those can be had for cheap but do take some research and time to track down good deals, so i've slowed down a lot.

Look up the MOA deflection of each holdover in your BDC of choice (Elcan heavy and too expansive for glass quality) and plug your load and gun into ballistic software to see at what ranges each MOA deflection corresponds to, then print and laminate a picture of your reticle with ranges for each point you want to use as reference and paste that inside of your scope cap. It's gonna be weird ranges that aren't round numbers but that's the price you pay for using BDC scopes without the gear system they're supposed to integrate to.

Well, it all depends on the condition and rarity of the luger, but I might shoot mine every 3 months or so and even then it's under 30 rounds. I'd also recommend buy new grips so that the value of the gun is not harmed if the grip breaks during use, which can happen with the old wood.

So erm.. I got my first AR today, an M&P Sport II, and the forward assist really wouldn't do anything when I tried to push it. Like it would go maybe a mm at most. So for whatever reason I pushed it as hard as I could in, and it went in all the way. Now I can't pull it out, and when I try and pull / force the bolt back its very rough and makes a zipping noise.

ok nvm, I had to take my 'dentist' tools and pull up on the little stick thing it pushes forward, then pull back on the forward assist button thingy.

Anyways, any idea why it has to be pulled up every time I push the assist forward? Can this be fixed easily?

I see. Well I hope I won't have to be that much of a Nazi (hue) about keeping it in perfect condition. I might switch out the grips like you say, but I do intend to shoot it every so often, but I will also clean it and shoot nice expensive ammunition.

Is sexual assault or torture (sexual or otherwise) ever permissible as self defense? And to clarify, I don't mean against women or children. Like say some dude breaks into your house in the middle of the night, you corner him at gunpoint, but don't have any adequete equipment of facilities to effectively detain him until the cops can pick him up (say there's a big ass storm going on outside, a blizzard or something). Would it be legally defensible to sodomize or platonically torture (DIY waterboarding, yanking off fingernails etc...) your prisoner into submission so that they don't try escape or attack you during the night? I mean it should in theory be physically safer for the detainee than trying to "knock them out" with a blunt object and also safer for you in terms of once their spirit is broken they will be less likely to try harm you.

Is there any precedent for this type of legal issue?

I had a similar issue with mine when I got it. I broke down the gun at the store counter and checked everything but the forward assist. I got home and tried to push it in but it wouldn't budge. I presume it was just installed incorrectly. All I did was remove the forward assist and reinstall it. All you'll really need is a hammer and punch to knock out the rollpin and then reinstall. It might be a bit tricky getting it back in unless you have two extra hands to help out, but I did it by myself. Go to youtube and look up how to remove the forward assist.

All firearm transfers across state lines require an FFL on one end at least. Also, Failinois has its own requirements, mostly involving the mandatory FOID card and associated background checks, licensing, etc.

I live in Colorado, and none of the LGSes or police around here enforce the magazine cap law.
If I ship a gun here from out of state with a "high cap" mag, is it on the FFL to enforce that law (which they probably won't), or does it get enforced before it gets there by someone else?

Don't listen to this anon, the biggest advantage of the Makarov is that its comparative weight makes control of the 9x18 round very easy allowing you to place shots quickly and accurately on target. It's probably one of the best single-stack CCWs because it's not liable to fly out of your hand like many polymer subcompacts.

I'm trying to find a video I watched a long time ago. It was B&W, WWII-era. It explained the evolution of the modern firearm, using a large model that was continually upgraded, from a simple pipe (that represented just a simple barrel) all the way up to modern bolt-action or semi-auto. The video kept cutting away parts and adding others to give a pretty detailed view of the modern gun.

Anyone know what I'm thinking of here?

Any re-loaders here?

I am just starting out reloading .308 and I started with 90% loads for an ar-308. When I went to the range they all shot about 200 FPS lower than the max number.

Is there anything wrong with going straight to 100%? Will it blow up my gun?

I have made a couple and two of the bullets, with IMR 4895 has to be crunched into the powder. is this too much powder? Am I turning my gun into a grenade?

I am using Sierra match king 175gr, hornandy ELD-x 178gr and nosler accubond 180gr.

Only the nosler and sierra crush the 4895. Hornandy sits just fine with it's 100% load.

I'm looking for a rifle I saw a video about a while back, but I can't remember what it's called. (there might be more than one that fits what I'm about to describe)
It uses AR mags and shoots .223/5.56 but you can fold the stock, and fire it with the stock folded. I know an AR has the spring in the stock so you can't fire them with a folded stock.
Any ideas?

There are modified ARs that put the recoil spring inside the body of the rifle, AR-18 style. That's how they do that trick.

The LR-300 is the most well known here on /k/, there are some more modern versions out there here and there like the MPAR-556.

Then you've REAL oddballs like the KelTec SU-16 which has nothing in common with the AR-15 aside from the mags and caliber.

Decockers are the same as safeties to save adding an extra dongle to the gun it is the safety, but it also releases the hammer if in the cocked position. If you decock it and leave it in safe you can rack the slide and the hammer will fall again against the slide and you can attempt to pull the hammer back but it will still fall against the slide even without pulling the trigger and attempting to use the pistols double action function will yield no results.

Vortex. Some jackass before me spraypainted it and paint is gumming the fuck out of the magnification adjustment. When I bought it off the guy I was like "ok, no worries, I'll just send it in and they'll replace it with a new unpainted one" but it didn't happen that way.

So I need it to break for real, only now it looks like the Viper line is discontinued...so I'm not sure what happens then. Would they send a Gen 2?

1. I'm thinking of making the Bersa Thunder 40 Pro my first gun purchase. Never fired it, but I like how it looks and feels, and the weight is pretty good, at least unloaded.

Is it reliable? How's the recoil compared to, say, a glock in the same caliber?

2. I'm doing some temp work in a small gunstore and it really irks me that we don't seem to prioritize gun safety over sales. Any advice for getting people to at least know the basics as soon as they get in the store? Are there legal repercussions for giving or omitting that info?

I mean, most of our clientele don't even read, but I feel guilty for not being able to put up a poster with the 4 rules or something. At least if they ignore it, that'll be on them.

I'm having some trouble picking a handgun. Should I accept that every gun has SOMETHING wrong with it and get the least objectionable or just lay down and buy some sort of trigger safety polymer brick?
>>
>>32788911
Find something that works for you. Everything has a downside on paper, yet something out there will certainly work better for you than other alternatives. This is not only true about guns, but literally everything. Unless you're just trying to bait a favorite carry pistol argument, just hit your local ranges and demo shit until you find something that feels right for YOU. What is considered a feature for one person can certainly be considered a liability for another based on everything from how big you are, to what your personal preferences of how something should feel and operate (switch locations, sizes etc...) in your hand.

My favorite type of gun is not necessarily going to work for you at all. And before you say something like "this is a weapons board, I'm just asking a simple question", go out and find a little bit about your own preferences first. If you want to come in with "I love my CZ75B, what's a 45 you would recommend" that's one thing as there are some core and superficial similarities to go off of; but "what's a good gun" is just going to get you a shitload of personal opinions and anecdotes as opposed to any useful recommendations suited for ya.
>>
>>32788960
>Unless you're just trying to bait a favorite carry pistol argument
Don't worry there's a dedicated thread for that right now.

I'm just asking because it feels like I'm getting a shit sandwich no matter what I go for, and everyone touts a certain firearm as the "one size fits all" handgun.

>Bersa Thunder 40
>.40 S&W
I'd consider something else based on chambering alone. .40s only upside over 9mm or 45 is that it's scare-buy proof. No idea on it's operation since few people own bersas sans the .380 thunder.

>2. I'm doing some temp work in a small gunstore and it really irks me that we don't seem to prioritize gun safety over sales. Any advice for getting people to at least know the basics as soon as they get in the store? Are there legal repercussions for giving or omitting that info?

>>
>>32788997
You'll find your favorite. Just keep at it until you find the one. Everyone has a pistol they like and use best. Everyone says theirs is the best because other guns don't feel as good to them.
>>
>>32788779
>40
You're going to get a lot of shit over this one. Any particular reason you're going for it?

Aside from that it's a pretty solid gun and Bersa's alright as far as cheaper manufacturers go. Recoil's what you'd expect from .40, nothing special. Ergos are generally nice and nearly-full ambi is a plus for some.

>are there legal repercussions for giving or omitting that info?
No. It's the user/buyer's responsibility to educate themselves and if they do some stupid shit then it's on them.

The caliber? Not really. I mean, I haven't really heard anything negative about it, and I assumed that it was a better round than the 9mm due to being larger.

I've actually always been keen on a 9mm Beretta, but we don't carry any in the store. Too oldschool, I'm told.

I am EXTREMELY curious to know more about what gives you this impression.

I've never spoken to a gunstore clerk about firearm safety, but then again people aren't walking around my lgs(s) rifle-butting each other with the floor pieces, I don't really see what gun safety has to do a common gun store setting, but am extremely curious to hear what types of shenanigans you've witnesses, or if you have some sort of particularly unique setup there.

As far as the bersa thunders go; I personally find their general ergonomics agreeable, although I like guns with bigger switches in general (e.g. 1911s and older rugers [p series etc]) compared to those the ones with tiny switches (glocks/m&ps, etc...) and I DO like the decocker feature on some of the thunders. I've never owned or fired a 40 so I can't really speak to reliability or quality, but I haven't really heard any bad stories about it, so I'd say go for it. It does seem like a rather unusual first choice though, did someone recommend it to you? Did it just happen to feel better in your hand than anything else you've tried working at the gunstore? Not really being critical of your plan. just curious.
>>

95% of our clientele are basketball americans. Jimenez, Draco and Hi-points are our best sellers.

But occasionally you get the chill dude or old lady that just wants something to protect themselves in a shitty city. I just feel a bit of guilt knowing that we could at least tell them how to avoid accidentally shooting themselves or their dog in the face, but don't.

>Did it just happen to feel better in your hand than anything else you've tried working at the gunstore?

Pretty much, yeah. Reputation is one thing, but if it doesn't feel right, it doesn't feel right, you know?

On a related note, I finally got a chance to get my hands on an FN 5-7. I'd heard a lot of good things about it, and liked how it looked, but having held it, I can safely say that I'd pass on it. Plus it's expensive af for me too.

No. The dimple is where it was staked before. It was hammered with a special staking tool, and that dimple pushed a tiny bit of steel up against the pin, holding it in place.
You may need to consult a gunsmith about this, as I think it takes quite a lot of force to stake it, and maybe a special tool.

In states where there are restrictions on barrel lengths on rifles & shotguns, is it legal to own barrels that are below legal length if they're by themselves?

Say buying a barrel online but never using it with any of your firearms, simply possessing a barrel below legal length it in anticipation for the legal required length to be lowered.

Bushmaster XM-15 or Carbon 15 vs. S&W M&P-15.

In terms of quality for the price.

Looking at buying an AR for plinking and blasting shit inna woods, with cheap ammo, have no tacticool interest in it.

Most I'll do is add a cheap optic, maybe a foregrip (I don't like MOE personally/don't want to pile a ton of money onto the rifle), and maybe try to paint a camo pattern on it like the cool kids.

The LE6920 is cool and all, but that's a lot to invest considering this is going to be a range toy and a beater. Having said that, warranty may influence me.

Honestly, and not to be a douche, but I would say buy the biggest one you can afford. You might only own 2 or 3 guns now, but what about in 5 years? 10 years? You don't want to be buying a new safe every 5 years. Also, when it comes time to move that heavy bastard into your home, only get people that you know very well and you can trust, to help you move it. You don't want the ex-cons at your local sporting goods store to know you have enough guns to need a safe.
>>
>>32792286
On the flipside of this argument; if your current residence is not permanent (e.g. you are living in an apartment, have not gotten marred/have kids etc...) Get a small cheap safe. Like those $100 ish stack ons. Furthermore, those are light and small to load into your car, carry up stairs, etc... completely alone.

You don't want to get a 2k+ safe that is nigh impossible to transport without professional help until you're placing it in a house that you plan on living in for the rest of your life. You sure as hell don't want to be buying a new safe every few years if you're talking the big ones; but the cheap little ones, you easily CAN buy another as your collection grows, not to mention, you can very easily transport them extremely easily.

Yes big safes are better for many many reasons, But due to their cost and the logistics involved in installing and god forbid moving them; just go with little safes until you have a place where you're sure the big safe can sit for the rest of your life.
