Does airsoft make the mean man angry. Gear is gear, get over it. We're not talking about best face protection or what company to order bbs from, we're discussing gear. Most of us own real guns. Either way it's military technology that is the focus, and that falls well within the purview of the board. So get over yourself. It's embarrassing.

You can pay a pile of money for a opscor, MTEK or wendy. Or you can try to find a protec.
I've had an order on protec's website since 2013 and they refuse to respond to any emails. I found one in tan in the back of a local shop and just rattle canned it.

Its a Protec high cut (Cant remember if its alpha or bravo) in size medium. It started its life in tan but was assaulted by a krylon can which turned it green.

For the shroud im using a wilcox L4 with lanyard. Mount is USGI Rhino ~2006 and a jarm setup. Currently I swapped to the newer design of rhino mount from 2015 and that helped significantly. Find a surplus store near a base, I paid ~$30 for jarm and rhino mount. Wilcox mount is nice and locks up tight and I really like the lanyard setup.

If you get the protec I suggest you get a dremel and take down the screws on the front most strap retention, they sort of poke the padding out a bit and I was paranoid that they were going to Frankenstein me.

As a whole I like the helmet but I will be switching to ballistic rated MTEK helmet whenever I get around to it.

I can make a short infographic down and dirty or a long more detailed one. What do we prefer? Either way I'm not gonna get into how to use stuff in depth because I'd prefer people take a licensed class. But I'll touch on everything else

My (((one day))) kit. Improvements/adjustments since the photo was taken were fully swapping out MOLLE/MALICE clips for ALICE clips to attach pouches, swapping rubber bands out for blousing bands (no particular reason for changing them except for better texture on the hands), adding a small lamp to the front of the chestrig, and swapping the medical pouch out for a GI style pouch (contents of pouch unchanged). Very happy with the overall layout which hasn't dramatically changed in the last two years and I don't expect any major adjustments.

Slim down your stuff for the IFAK. Masscal and triage stuff should go in your assault pack.
You using a new Banshee or old Banshee?
Depending on how deep your torso is, you may like the Fatboy pouch. Just Google that and you will find it. Count the exposed MOLLE rows and see if it will fit. I prefer to mount my IFAK on my belt, but I see that you have been around, so you do you.
>>
>>32777137
THIS is advice I should consider highly desu.
>>
>>32777160
I thought about addressing the secondary ruck they you call an IFAK, but your tenancy toward exuberance is fine with me. If you want to carry that much stuff, then just be sure to share generously and try to fall on the opposite side.
>>
>>32777192
IRL i'm a very quiet, low energy person. I'm nothing like my persona here. I prefer slim fitting and dull colors. The reason I'm with this pouch is because he sent it to me for free by accident and let me keep it. I'd much prefer While I don't mind carrying infinity pounds, I'd prefer to keep it tight and close to me. I carry 5 mags for the same purpose. Yes I have EMT and CLS training and know how to use it all but I don't think its wise to carry an entire hospital with me on my PC when I can leave most of it in my AP.

#blabbering sorry. Please give me good ideas to cut down on and what pouch should really be using and what not.

>>
>>32776952
Thanks, it does. There's about an 1 1/4 inch difference, might have to get an additional rig. That "sucks".
>>
>>32777235
Alright.
One pack combat gauze, one (!) ETB, two compressed gauze, two chest seals, one TQ, 1 pair gloves (large is best, as it may not be you who wears them), one NPA, one chest dart if both you and the people around you know how to use it, one pair sheers, one roll of two or three inch cloth tape, one sharpie, any relevant medical information (medically relevant allergies, chronic conditions, prescriptions), and one roll of ACE wrap if space permits. All of this should fit in an issued IFAK pouch with the sled or smaller container. I may have forgotten something and I am not going to get up to check.

Booboo nonsense, bitch mints, burn treatments, splints, lucky charms, MRE components, lighters, and last smokes do not go in an IFAK.
>>
>>32777137

I will have to look into that one, and yes the stuff or my IFAK will be only the basics to keep it slim...
As for all the triage stuff is in that TCCC leg bag that attaches to my belt.

>>32777400
>>32777489
Sorry to get your hopes up :^(

>>
People will tell you that booboo shit doesnt belong in an IFAK. They are generally right, but me personally, I keep a small pack of shit in there. Doesnt take up any space, doesnt get in the way. Does it belong in the pack? Yeah it does, and maps dont belong in my dump pouch and smokes dont belong in my grenade pouch. The reality is ive been mid patrol plenty of times and reached in and got an advil or two. (inb4 OMG U SHOULDNT BE POPPIN ADVIL ON PATROLLLLS)

>>32777402
Brings up great points. But I urge you to take your training and your future missions into consideration. Theres a million ways to skin a cat. For example, anon says one TQ but two chest seals. Id rather have two TQ and one chest seal. Also If im deployed I want burn dressing. If im stateside, I take it out.

Everyone's different, >>32777402 disagrees with me, and thats okay. Personally I say some comfort items are okay. Its an individual first aid kit. Remember what first aid is. It means booboo too sometimes. The reality is an IFAK for combat operations is a LOT different than an IFAK for camping and innawoods larping. So take a look at what your use of it is. If your a LEO and your using it as a response to an active shooter, yeah drop the booboo shit big time. If your larping at nuggetfest, it might help to keep some vagisil in there.
>>
>>32777522
>People will tell you that booboo shit doesnt belong in an IFAK. They are generally right
I disagree too. Think about it. Are you more likely to catch a bullet, or suffer a booboo?

I've had to use my IFAK for cuts and scrapes multiple times. My trauma stuff never.
>>
>>32777522
Everything depends on METT-TC, of course. I get about 43 kinds of pissed off when I rip into an IFAK and find a layer of utter BS before I can get to work.

I specify 1 TQ in the IFAK because I always carry one on a tear away on my PC and one more in a calf pocket.
>>
>>32777572
>>32777522
As somebody who has used the trauma stuff, I'll say that carrying "boo boo" stuff is fine, but it shouldn't be mixed into a dedicated IFAK/trauma kit. Assume that your IQ is going to drop to room temperate in a real emergency and set your dumber self up for success by having an organized, accessible trauma kit. The last thing you need is a spilled cluster fun of medical stuff going everywhere. Aside from that, loading nominal stuff in a immediate care kit takes away space from more trauma supplies, and you can never have too much gauze or occlusive seals.

Carry a separated "booboo"/delayed aid kit for your pills, antibiotics, moleskin, tweezers, salt/sugar, and other non-immigrate life threatening injury items.

>>
>>32777621
I totally get ya man. Just givin the guy some other options and ideas. Im with you, typically people overdo the comfort items.

>>32777657
Again we can agree to disagree. Its so easy to overdo the booboo type stuff, so I understand why most say shy away from it. But ive used trauma stuff too. And everyone ive worked on keeps Combat Pill Packs on them, band aids, and even cigs at time (Which is something I wouldnt recommend) So we can agree on that.

I really think some of the milfags/emtfags/whatever are bringing great knowledge to the ifak talks. However its maybe important to remember 90% of this board will be conducting operations innawoods and innadeserst in a first world country, usually larping, or nuggetfesting, or ranging.

The point is these most of these guys are better served with a few advil, than a neddle d or fast one. Now if they are going for a 'Military simulation' kit or a prepper stfh ww3 simulation kit then sure build it EXACTLY like a military one.

Again I agree with most of what your saying, and im totally with you, people pack too much shit in them. Just a friendly reminder the infantry guys here already know what they need in the ifak and arent coming to the chan for advise on what to pack for their next raid.
>>
>>32777732
Emergency trauma bandage IIRC, its been a while since I've done CLS.

Its gauze with quik clot that coagulates blood. Dummied down, in execution you poke it into holes in the body to help soak up blood. usually torso since you can't TQ the torso.
>>
>>32776326
put those other pouches on it
>>
>>32777785
You are conflating combat gauze and an Emergency Trauma Bandage, which are sometimes called Israeli Bandages. They are used to control bleeding that does not require/cannot be managed with a TQ. They are generally placed over a packed wound to keep other interventions in place. There are larger versions designed to be dampened with saline solution and placed over protruding organs resulting from abdominal wounds.

I get what people are saying about general first aid as opposed to serious trauma tools. I am not saying not to carry first aid gear. I am saying that it should not be in an IFAK. Maybe I should start calling IFAKs blow out kits for the sake of clarity.
I keep a small case of field meds in my left thigh pocket, and a glasses case with band aids, butterfly closures, Neosporin, tweezers, a tick key, afterbite, and other assorted oddments. That usually lives in a mag pouch on whatever pack I am carrying.
>>
>>32778022
Oh shit Ive only ever heard them called Israeli bandages or pressure bandages. I guess you learn something every day.

And why so much medical shit, I never carried anything more than the IFAK contents and maybe some moleskin and hydro from my wisdom teeth surgery. Were you a medic?

I am a company/platoon medic depending on the day. My unit is light infantry, so we have to be fairly self-sufficient.

I make a point of having just about everything that my guys will need. I expect them to bring their own, and I penalize failure to do so, but I take care of them. I became a father and a medic at about the same time and the two roles have some crosstalk in the wiring.

4 pairs of gloves in a baggie
2 packages of gauze
1 pair of trauma sheers (in the rear pocket)
1 cat tourniquet (rubber banded to the side)

i don't think i will ever wear this gear in combat and its doubtful that i will be shot in the chest so i dont need seals and tape and shit. That stuff would go in a second smal kit on my belt, pocket or my gp pouch if i needed/wanted it.

Can you red pill me on that injury?

when you get shot in the chest air can enter into your chest and cause your lung to collapse you seal it with a chest seal that only allows air to escape and you put a decompression needle in that has a valve to release the pressure inside the chest

I did combat first aid when I was in, and learned about how to apply tourniquets (we were taught to apply as high up on the limb as possible), treat airway injuries, and treat sucking chest wounds. That's realistically all you're going to be able to do without an actual medic's kit.

Skinny medic on YT does some really great videos on what to keep in your IFAK.

I have
1: 6" Israeli bandage
2: Hyphin Chest seals
3: Tourniquets (1 RATS, 1 SWAT, 1 CAT)
4: NPA
5: Decompression Needle
6: like 4 or 5 pairs of Nitrile gloves
7: Medical Tape
8: Compressed gauze
9: Sharpies
10: Combat quick clot gauze
11: Celox
12: Sheers
13: booboo stickers, advil,

So I got a new PC but unsure how I want to set it up

I want to keep it as low profile as possible and unsure if I want to use a Spiritus Micro Fight mag insert in the kangaroo pouch or get a swift clip placard that holds 3 or 4 mags

I also have a riggers belt I need to turn into a battle belt. Right now I only have the outer belt, but will get the inner one soon. But, should I bother getting a full war belt or just a few mag pouches and dump pouch to throw on the outer belt?
>>
>>32779789
Is gauze just for stuffing into wounds? I can't remember but I think that was the main use
I know how to use most of that list (except the needle), and the RATS and SWAT tourniquet.
What's the benefit in 3 different tourniquets?

p much solid tips here, also these are sam splints, very handy to have and easily fit into the back of your assault pack to act as cushioning for your spine. Another thing seldom mentioned is making a makeshift casualty sled out of a portable beer-can sized ripstop bivvy, incase you have a casualty so fucked up that you cannot fireman carry them or you need to keep their extremities/spine as flat as possible and distribute weight

but to add onto chest decompression needles, it's pretty easy to fuck up and i typically don't suggest trying it to someone who's never done it before, however having the tools to handle something in a shit situation that is going south is better than not having shit at all
>>
>>32779832
>Is gauze just for stuffing into wounds?
for the most part yes. This is a very vague answer though.

>I know how to use most of that list (except the needle)
learn, i got lucky and was taught by three trauma nurses on a legit dummy chest.
But the other thing about the IFAK is that if you're not conscious to use it, at least have the tools for someone who knows how to use them.
>>
>>32779832
>What's the benefit in 3 different tourniquets?
forgot to answer this. "two is one and one is none"

Id rather carry three and only need one then need three for some reason and only have one. You can treat a bit of trauma just by stopping arterial blood flow. Also learn the different types of bleeds: Capillary, Venous, Arterial
>>
>>32779871

man that dog on the left fucked that nigga on the right up bad
>>
>>32779900
>But the other thing about the IFAK is that if you're not conscious to use it, at least have the tools for someone who knows how to use them
Yeah that's why I really only plan on packing what I know in/around the IFAK, or things that are self explanatory (Celox).
>Israel bandage
>Gauze
>Compression bandage
>Celox
>NPA
>Tourniquet x2
>Sucking chest wound seal
>Trauma shears

All other personal medical stuff like Band-aids, ibuprofen, panadol/codeine, tweezers, alco-wipes, Antiseptic wipes will be kept in a separate container in my day pack, as it really doesn't belong in the IFAK. I'll probably keep a splint in my day pack too.
>>
>>32780061

for anti-septic it's also economical to carry a quality flask of grain alcohol to flush debris out of gashes and the like, plus it takes the edge off so it's multi-use

Self-shilling here, but I'm going to Fort Bragg's surplus shops next week. They stock basically any Army USGI gear you can think of for pretty cheap, along with a grab bag of used aftermarket gear sold by soldiers. Helmets, armor, mags, FLCs, LBE, uniforms, whatever.

Platoon/squad markings. Sometimes you will also see small indicators for prior heat or cold injuries. If you ever find surplus duffles or rucks, you will likely find tape residue on handles and straps.
>>
>>32787003
In basic training (or OSUT if you were an MOS that mattered) it was to separate the training platoons within a company. So all the guys from 1st PLT had red tape, all from 2nd had blue, 3rd had green and so on. You can also barely see the name stenciled on the camelbak which was another basic training thing.

Although the tape is still there. Whether by design or happenstance impressed he didnt take it off or it didnt fall off through regular field use.

>>
>>32786997
whats wrong with ar500? I cant afford 400$ of plates so it seemed like a good option.
>>
>>32787297
The lie about their rating the plates wont stop 5.56 out of a 20 inch AR.

they are constantly having to recall their plates. The plates are twice as heavy as ceramics. The small coating separates from the plate when it takes a hit and it could separate completely and you could have spall shoot up into your face and throat.

I own Ar500 armor, i am also a poorfag, i made a mistake not waiting until i could afford ceramics.
>>
>>32787064
Don't need it. I used to wear an admin pouch when I was still in the military, but it held some specific stuff that I just don't use as a civilian.

Same reason I have a lot of gear changed up from when I was active duty. Different requirements for what needed to be carried and the context.

I still carry a mini green notebook, but it goes in my back pocket, not into a piece of dedicated kit.

by and large all the "admin" pouches on the market were intended for wear on the sternum of the plate carrier. in my experience they don't impede mag access as much as you suggest.

some alternatives:
put admin stuff in a small GP pouch on your cummerbund or something
put admin stuff in your pants pockets
>>
>>32788055
I am engaging in a bit of low-key shitposting. I keep both maps and cheater cards in my condor (joke goes here) map pouch, which I wear on the left side of my cummerbund. They only people I see running around with a campaign desk on their chest are PLs and PSGs who dislike putting things in their pockets.

Every time I turn it on, all noise is distorted with high scratchiness, even the beeps the radio makes. When I turn it up high, I can hear the sound through the scratching, but when it's at low volume, all sound is replaced by the scratchy noise.

I have no fucking clue why that is. It started when I was trying to make it work with consumer grade walkie talkies, and it got some bad feedback I think. Now it starts and stops randomly.

It'll kill someone if you stab someone in the right spot or open up their throat. It's not very utilitarian otherwise, but it's also compact and light and you can just stick it behind a mag pouch or something.
>>
>>32779832
Not him obviously, but you can use all those for different things/reasons. The cat is just really good for quickly getting on a limb, the rats can be applied to a limb of any size (children, smaller framed women, manlets, dogs, etc) and is very compact which is why a lot of people have them in their EDC, and the swat can be used on limbs but more importantly it can be used to apply pressure to dressings on the abdomen. Each one has its pros and cons, so just get a few of each imo.
