For me it's pic related, the AR-15.The best Assault Rifle. I even ask for extra MAGPUL magazines and the staff is so friendly and more than willing to oblige.

One time I asked for AR-15 magazines and they gave me three. I said, "Wow, three for free!" and the nice friendly Gun Shop worker laughed and said, "I'm going to call you 3-for-free!".

Now the staff greets me with "hey it's 3-for-free!" and ALWAYS give me Magazines. It's such a fun and cool atmosphere at my local Firearm Dealership, I go there at least 3 times a week for Ammo and a large Optic with Thermals instead of Image intensified, 1-2 times for Lube on the weekend, and maybe once for gunsmithing when I'm in a rush but want great service that is affordable, fast, and can match my daily survival needs.

I even dip my AR-15 in Froglube, it's anti-corrosive! What a great rifle.

I'd argue that a good AR in 5.56x45 NATO is the better choice. A good AR is reliable, accurate, all those things. Ammo is everywhere - more so than the 7.62x39, because of widespread usage by police, military, and civilian shooters. Parts are everywhere for the same reasons, etc, etc.

It would make you pretty much invaluable to any non-military assets and still make you valuable to military assets. Nothing you can hide behind in a modern city is going to stop a .50 and nothing you will be driving can either.

Surviving TOTALWACKY isn't about having the most gucci infantry weapon. The group with the best Tantals and AR-15s will get smeared against durr rifles backed up by a Browning M2.
